Koneru Humpy - Player Thread

Basically a froum to cover chess now that we seem to have sufficient interest in the game.

Enormous stupidity. What else can one say? Can we get rid of these brainless administrators once and for all by filing a PIL or something to make the courts act? I know what I am saying is stupid but I am enormously frustrated by these administrators.

We are all with you, as frustrated. I guess there is hardly anything we can do...

In all walks of life everywhere, there are a fraction of people who are classless lowlifes. Same in India too. But the amazingly high fraction of such abominable and disgusting human waste that we see among administrators in Indian sports federations is something that boggles one's mind. These are sure golds that these bastards are throwing away, and it is unfathomable, how they can illtreat somebody like Koneru. Is it absolutely too late for her to go, somehow?

For those of you who have not read the entire series of events that unfolded more than a year back, here are the relevant links in order.
22 Oct 2009, Humpy's press release: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=5853
23 Oct 2009, Sunder's reply: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=5861
25 Oct 2009, Humpy's challenge/ reply: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=5865
3 Nov 2009, Chess player association & reader comments: http://www.chessbase.com/newsprint.asp?newsid=5884

As you can see, Humpy expressed her interest for playing in Asian Games 2010, as far back as Oct 2009!!

It may not help, but, I am planning to write to the editors of newspapers demanding Sundar to step down. It won't matter for the Asian Games probably it is too late. But, we cannot make another Humpy but we can clean the chess federation so that future Humpy's are treated better. Maybe others should do so too to bring more of this into light if you can. Maybe we should tweet and facebook or orkut or whatever else people do about this lowlife and do our best to raise some noise. Of course, if this gets retweeted and viral, then perhaps someone notices and things can snowball. Maybe I am being too idealistic.

Usually these guys never insist that Anand has to attend these training camps. Humpy, they think they can get away with insisting on 'rules'.

Grand Prix of Qatar

Post by ajay »

Grand Prix of Qatar
Congratulations Koneru!! Great win!! :bounce:

Koneru came from way behind to win Women's Grand Prix

After trailing Armenian GM Danielian for the entire tournament, Humpy Koneru scored 5.5/6 after the break to win the 2011 Doha Grand Prix on tiebreaks! It is an amazing clutch performance, especially when only 3 players out of 12 have plus scores (i.e. >5½ out of maximum 11)

Rank Name Rtg FED Pts
1 GM Koneru Humpy 2607 IND 8
2 GM Danielian Elina 2454 ARM 8
3 GM Sebag Marie 2489 FRA 7
4 GM Cramling Pia 2516 SWE 5½
5 GM Chiburdanidze Maia 2502 GEO 5½
6 GM Dzagnidze Nana 2550 GEO 5½
7 GM Xu Yuhua 2484 CHN 5
8 IM Munguntuul Batkhuyag 2410 MGL 5
9 IM Mkrtchian Lilit 2475 ARM 4½
10 IM Fierro Baquero Martha L 2363 ECU 4½
11 GM Stefanova Antoaneta 2546 BUL 4
12 GM Zhu Chen 2495 QAT 3½

Another Report
Round eleven was as thrilling as it was expected. After two quite peaceful draws between Dzagnidze-Chiburdanidze and Danielian-Stefanova, all the attention turned to the games which would identify the winner of Grand Prix in Qatar and also decide the participant of the match with Hou Yifan. The Chinese has already clinched the first place in the overall Grand Prix cycle and is a current World Champion among women. The first contender Nana Dzagnidze could not have an effect on the situation and was waiting for the result of the second challenger Humpy Koneru who needed to win the game in order to have a chance to qualify. Another important for the final standings game was played between Marie Sebag and Bathkhuyag Munguntuul. The French player also needed to win in order to share the first place. In such case Nana Dzagnidze would get a ticket to the match because Humpy Koneru would not get enough points in overall series of Women Grand Prix. After almost 5 hours of fighting Marie Sebag was defeated by Mongolian player and Humpy Koneru scored a crucial point!

Humpy suffered a shock defeat against Nadeszda Kosintseva in the seventh round of FIDE women GP at Jermuk. At the end of the seventh round she is placed fourth with 4 points, a full point behind the leader Ju Wenjun.

In the eight round she will play Lahno Kateryna of Ukraine. Tough match to win. Go Humpy :goodluck:

She lost the next match too couple of hours back against Lahno Kateryna with white. Looks like she is not in good form for this tournament. :(
Hou Yifan has cought up with Ju Wenjun at 5.5 while Humpy is 6th at 4.0 points.

With only three rounds to go chances look bleak for her to win this tournament. Poor result

Humpy did well in last three rounds scoring 2.5 points and surprising, in the end finished quite well as she was runners up (along with two more players) and only 1/2 point behind the ultimate winner, the world champion Yifan. Great comeback!

Final standings:

1. GM Hou Yifan CHN 2617 – 7
2-4. GM Kosintseva Nadezhda RUS 2516, GM Lahno Kateryna UKR 2537 and GM Koneru Humpy IND 2598 – 6.5
5-6. WGM Ju Wenjun CHN 2518 and WGM Ruan Lufei CHN 2483 – 6
7. GM Zhao Xue CHN 2556 – 5.5

10. IM Kovalevskaya Ekaterina RUS 2417 – 4.5

Koneru Humpy is a strong finisher in a tournament. Once again she won the last two games to regain the lead and win a strong tournament. She lost the antepenultimate (3rd last, i.e. 9th in this tournament ) round a nd the tournament to Anna Muzychuk . But with a win in penultimate round brought them at even score, and the win in the "ultimate" took Koneru past Anna for the championship.

Well done Koneru! Congratulations!!!!
Humpy Koneru became a winner of 6th stage of the FWGP in Ankara and placed second in the overall Grand Prix series after Hou Yifan. The Chinese has already clinched the first place in the overall Grand Prix cycle and is a current World Champion among women.
Round eleven was as thrilling as it was expected. All the attention turned to the games which would identify the winner of Grand Prix in Ankara. Humpy Koneru confidently won against Monika Socko and had to wait for the final outcome of the game between Ruan Lufei and Anna Muzychuk. The victory could have given Slovenian player the second place in the Series but she missed a good chance for advantage and game was drawn. Another important game for the final standings was played between Zhao Xue and Tatiana Kosintseva. A draw guaranteed Zhao Xue the bronze medal in GP in Ankara. Both Turkish players Kubra Ozturk and Betul Yildiz lost in the 11th round to the higher rated Viktorija Cmilyte and Antoaneta Stefanova respectively. Munguntuul Batkhuyag won against Ju Wenjun and finished the tournament with +1.
