She had the biggest jump among the Indians this season, so perhaps not a big surprise. Hopefully, the others who improved recently are clean...

Within 24 hours of the above story breaking (that of stimulant dimethylbutylamine which is similar to methylhexaneamine) has come another sensational story. Amar Ujala's Hemant Rastogi has reported that Manpreet also tested positive at the Asian Grand Prix in Jinhua, China, where she set a national record of 18.86m to qualify for the World Championships. Rastogi also broke the first story about Manpreet's positive test for the stimulant yesterday. Tomorrow, all other papers will report the latest, more sensational, news.
In China, she tested positive for a steroid as well as for dimethylbutylamine.
Since there is a steroid, a provisional suspension has been imposed on her by the AFI which has stated that she would not be eligible to compete in the World Championships.
Her positive test is no big surprise as you have rightly observed. Such a huge jump is unheard of in athletics. There are a few others who have also shown incredible improvement this season. It could be a matter of time for them to fall into the anti-doping net.
It doesn't look Indian athletics is going to come out of this mess anytime soon.Today one TV channel ran a special story including several stings to show that officials were very much in the know of what has been going on. That in itself is nothing sensational. But there is one statement from a top official about how much money is needed to hush up a positive dope test. That might or might not be true, but it does raise doubts about the system:

Between 1/3 to 1/2 of elite athletes (of all countries) dope. Doping report They admitted that in an anonymous survey. Our ones even dope badly (and get caught) :-( [Not that I want our athletes to dope better. I don't want them to dope at all.]

Wrt the Narsingh saga, I read this report where CAS pretty much trashes NADA. CAS-NADA

Manpreet is going to get 4 years and not life (would have been if the 4 tests she failed would have been considered multiple doping instances). Manpreet doping case Needless to say, she will lose the Asian championship gold.

So, do we have anybody good out there who doesn't dope, and is of world class or Asian class?

If you are talking of only Athletics and only current athletes, I guess it may be Tintu Luka.

One can say she is Asian standard and have not heard anything about her.

One can never say about anyone for sure but just have a feeling that she is clean like her mentor Usha.

Yeah, Tintu has always seemed to be the only clean one. She may win nothing great but when her career ends, she deserves a reward for just being clean. Jay

I don't know much about what is going on internally and in these things one can never say, but, I think Poovamma in that team (4x400) is also clean. Anyone who has kept track of sudden increases and decreases of timing for her can comment better. Mugu?

Everyone dopes.

The issue is that our athletes have a low base to begin with and can't dope smart.

Poovamma looks "clean" right now though there was a stage when I started doubting her, too, among the 400m runners. The others in that huge batch of 4x400 probables except Jisna Mathew look suspect. Of course we know the acknowledged dopers among them. Only Ashwini left from that old batch.
Among the others in other events, I would vouch for Tintu Luka as supported by some here. She hasn't shown an abnormal variations in her performance though now the worry should be whether she can hang on for another year or two. The effects of dengue in Bhubaneswar was rather severe, I heard.
We may have to keep a watch on the jumpers and throwers (men and women) in the coming season to see who among them could be doping.

Another round of WADA/NADA at the CAS over Geetha Rani. Two years or four?

India finally decides to implement athletes' biological passport.
