Yes, heard of her for first time. It looks like we had quite a bit of talent in sports during that pre-just post independence era which could not blossom due to lack of resources.

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...
World team table tennis championships is taking place in Chengdu, China. I guess first this level event taking place in China after covid.
And out mens team created one of our biggest upsets beating second seeds Germany today in group match. Sathiyan won both his matches beating top 10 player Dang Qiu 10-12, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9. Our team is without veteran Achantha Sharath Kamal. But, young Manav Thakkar won his match against higher ranked player too.
Our team beat Uzbekistan easily yesterday.
There are 5 team groups and top 2 will directly qualify for pre quarter finals. We still have to play France and Kazakhstan. I think 1 win will get us to PQF.
Our womens team lost in a close match against Germany yesterday with Sreeja Akula and Diya Chitale beating higher ranked players but Manika Batra losing both her matches.
Today, our women team beat Czech Republic 3-0 though. If we beat Egypt tomorrow we will make it to last 16.

Yes and with that win they qualified for pre quarter finals.
Our men too beat Kazakhstan but had to fight hard and scraped thru to 3-2 win. We have 3 out of 3 wins now but still not assured of top 2 finish in the group and last 16 place as Germany who lost to us beat France today. Both France and Germany have 2 wins each. We meet France tomorrow. If we win we top the group and qualify for PQF easily but if we lose it may end up in 3 way tie between us , France and Germany. Do not know where we stand in tie break rules.

If the match win-loss is the tie breaker, it looks like we will have to win our final tie. Even a 2-3 loss will put us behind France. Germany is likely to win 3-0 against the weakest team in the competition that everyone has beaten 3-0 and that will put them in as well.

We almost laid an egg there aa we lost to France 0-3 after beating more fancied team Germany earlier like most of our teams do. Luckily we got thru as one of best third placed team . But due to that loss have drawn mighty China in PQF.
Women play Taiwan in PQF.

Sharath Kamal was a deserving selection for Khel Ratna. What a warhorse he has been, still showing up for India and doing his very best at his age!
