Some controversy involving Sukhwant Basra.

Sukhwant Basra is an ass! Perhaps that is his only way to remain relevant....

Basra thinks he is a citizen of the U.S. or China. In India, an Olympic medal is perhaps one of the greatest achievements of all time. Actually, across the world it is. Celebrating being among the top-3 in the world is not going overboard.

Yes, that was silly of him.

Btw, World wrestling championships begins tomorrow in Paris, France. These are the Indian teams for the event -

Women:
Vinesh Phogat (48kg), Sheetal (53kg), Lalita (55kg), Pooja Dhanda (58kg), Sakshi Malik (60kg), Shilpi (63kg), Navjot Kaur (69kg), Pooja (75kg)

Mens Freestyle: Sandeep Tomar (57kg), Harphool (61kg), Bajrang Punia (65kg), Amit Dhankar (70kg), Praveen Rana (74kg), Deepak (86kg), Satywart Kadiyan (97kg), Sumit (125kg);

Mens Greco-Roman: Gyanender (59kg), Ravinder (66kg), Yogesh (71kg), Gurpreet Singh (75kg), Harpreet Singh (80kg), Ravinder Khatri (85kg), Hardeep (98kg), Naveen (130kg).

Our best medal prospect is the Asian champion Bajrang Punia in mens 65M freestyle. Others with some chance are Vinesh and Sakshi Malik in women. For other a couple of wins will be good performance.

The championships will be telecast live in India on start sports from tomorrow.

As expected, bad performance by our Greco roman wrestlers. Only 1 wrestler- Gyanendra in 59 kg. could win a bout - 2 of them - first round and then 1 in repachages. All others lost in first round and could not qualify for repachages.

Hoping for better showing in womens which starts today and than mens freestyle.

Looks like none of our women FS finished in the top 6. However, in team rankings we came 22nd although I'm not sure how that is calculated. It's better than our GR men who finished 44th.

Hopefully, our mens FS will get us a medal...

Mo medal in mens freestyle too. Bajrang Punia lost a very close one 5-6 to the eventual gold medallist from Georgia but than lost the repachages bout badly. Sandip Tomar had very good win over a seeded opponent in first round but lost in the second round to the eventual gold medalists from Japan but also lost the repachages.

None of the others could get any significant wins.

Post Sushil-Yogeshwar era, we are still struggling to get world class wrestlers in mens freestyle. Narsingh Yadav was one but sadly he out due to doping. Another one was Amit Dahiya who got silver at WC 2-3 years back but he is struggling with injuries. Bajarang and Sandip Tomar get some good wins every now and then but still do not appear strong enough to win multiple matches at this level.

3 wrestlers in QF, SF and final gave walkover to Sushil and he won the national title.That is crap. It does not serve anyone's purpose- Sushil or those wrestlers.

But why would Sushil Kumar do this? Doesn't make any sense. I guess he will say that he couldn't do anything about it if those three guys wanted to spare their energy to fight repechage rounds.

Kick those three guys out for life. Seriously this is a joke.

We won the three silvers in recently concluded U23 World Championship in Poland.

The caution point had cost a Gold medal to Ritu Phogat in u23 Worlds ... Turkish girl Evin Demirhan declared a winner after 4-4 tie at the end of two rounds as Ritu had a caution point against her during the bout.

In Men's Freestyle, Bajrang lost a one-sided match against Russian Kuular in the 65kg category ... In the 70kg category, Vinod Kumar lost in the close match against American wrestler, Richard Anthony Lewis.
