Re: Indian Wrestling Thread ...
Here are the results. Two medals Seems like 20-year old Ashu's medal was a good beginning for him.

Re: Indian Wrestling Thread ...
And this is latest report-
Wrestlers miss out in Almaty, coach still on the way from Delhi
Sure enough our 2 wrestlers Seema and Pooja lost tamely against their Mongolian opponents. But, at least Sonam and Anshu have won their first bouts against wrestlers from China and Korea respectively.
It is round robin group stage in womens with limited competitiors. So, 2-3 more bouts for each of them before qualfiers for Tokoyo are determined.

Whatever may be the excuses, but this is pathetic from federation. None can be expected to perform at their best when they barely reached the venue late previous night after long travel and coach not even having reached there and this for such an important olympic qualification tournament. The women’s wrestlers, who will begin their quest for a place in the Olympics on Saturday morning, too were scheduled to reach Almaty at the same time as Kazarashvili – meaning, they will have to step on the mat barely hours after reaching the host city and without proper sleep for two nights.

Re: Indian Wrestling Thread ...
Seema and Pooja fell away but Anshu, Sonam and Nisha all won 2 bouts each to win their group and reach the SF.
One win away from quota. Anshu against Uzbekistan in 57 kg, Sonam against Kazakhstan in 62 kgs and Nisha against Kyrgyztan in 68 kgs the SF for the olympic quota shortly.

Re: Indian Wrestling Thread ...
Nisha lost to the Kyrgyz wrestler in the SF.
So, 2 quotas here in womens wrestling. I do not blame others looking that they could barely reach there only late night yesterday.
We now have 3 quotas in womens wrestling - Vinesh ( 53 kg), Anshu ( 57 kg) and Sonam ( 62 kg). One more chance will be at the final world qualfiers next month. Hope we can get 1-2 qualify there. I think there are chances in 50 kgs and 68 kgs.

In 2016 we got 2 Greco Roman quota through Asian qualifiers (Hardeep reached final and Ravinder Khatri by virtue of his opponent tested positive for a banned substance. Eventually that banned opponent got the decision overturned but Ravinder still kept the quota, so total 3 quota instead of 2 awarded in that category that year through Asian event). In a way we regressed in Greco Roman

Re: Indian Wrestling Thread ...
Yes, yesteday Gurpreet Singh beat London olympic gold medalist from Korea in the QF only to lose in the SF. Also expected a quota from Sunil Kumar in 87 kgs but he lost to a Kazakh wrestler.
We can still get a quota in Greco at final qualifying event. We may have partially regressed in Greco from the Asian perspective. Lets see what they do in the Asian championships which follows this qualfier. They are any way far away from world level.

Re: Indian Wrestling Thread ...
Today in mens freestyle day in qualfiers. We already have 3 wrestlers qualified for Tokyo. So, only 3 wrestlers in fray for us.
In 74 kg, Sandeep Mann beat wrestlers from Qatar and Tajikistan, in 97 kg- Satywart Kadian beat a wrestler from Korea and in 125 kgs, Sumit beat wrestler from Uzbekistan and all of them reached SF.
One win away from quota but all having very tough matches in SF- Sandeep against a world broze medalist from Iran, Kadian against world silver medalist from Iran and Sumit against a Kazak wrestlier. Any win will be a bonus.
