Also Jayanta Talukdar & Deepika Kumari won the bronze in mixed team event while Deepika Kumari won the bronze in individual singles winning her match 6-0. So, great comeback for Deepika here winning the team gold and 2 bronze medals.

It won't be easy in Asiad. Korea were not here at this world cup. In the womens individuals here, girl from Indonesia won the gold while a Chinese won silver. So, the competition will be stiff.

Last time, we won a silver and 2 bronze medals in Asiad. So, we would be looking for improvement over that and also some medals from Compound events which will be introduced for the first time this year.

In second world cup of this year in Antalya, Turkey , Deepika Kumari has reached the individual recurve SF. She is there all alone amidst 3 Koreans and will meet the London Olympics gold medalist in her SF in about 15 mins.

She has come thru 4 tough matches to reach here.

Heartbreaking loss for Deepika...

She lost the first two rounds 26-29 and 27-29 to go 0-4 down..... But came back strongly winning the next two 27-26 and 29-27 to make it 4-4...
But couldn't do the trick in the final round to force a tie-break losing it by a narrow margin of 28-29...

She will vie for the Bronze medal now against the Korean who was #2 in the ranking rounds.... :goodluck:

And good news from Archery too as Deepika beat the Korean to win the bronze today at Antalya.

This is the report from Archey world site -

KUMARI takes down Hye Jin in Antalya bronze final

Deepika is the only Indian archer who has won an individual medal at these world cup events consistently in last 2-3 years. She really needs to be nurtured well now ( better than before London Olympics) and she can be a real medal contender at Rio.

Strange behaviour! Wonder what the real story is.

Three archers, coach banned for three years
The Hindu wrote:The AIU handed the suspension to archers Gurwinder Singh, Kanwalpreet Singh and Aman and official Jiwanjot Singh for “utter negligence” and “gross violation of rules”, leading to “disrepute, embarrassment and tarnishing the image of India at the international platform.”

The compound team trio did not turn up at the bronze medal play-off against Italy in the July 3-14 World University Games at Gwangju in South Korea, thereby forfeiting the match.

Our compound teams did much better in qualification with mens team finishing 3rd and women team 6th. Also among men, Abhishek Verma finished at the top in qualifications and among women Jyoti Surekha was 8th.

But, the compound is not an olympic event.

Sameer will try and post the complete score, i watched it live on archery tv channel (youtube) , we started off by losing the first set and had a good chance to level back in the second one after leading initially but a 8 on a crucial time turned out that set was finally leveled (1-3 Ger).
In the third set both teams struggled and we were lucky to win it after hitting a 6 during that to level the set score at 3-3, Last set was no different but we held our composure to win it by 1 point and thus earned ourselves a Rio 2016 quota place.

We face Columbia next in the QF.

Our mens recurve team lost in a close match 4-5 in a shoot off and missed qualification to Rio. :-( Now, the individual archers will need to try and qualify later here. The team will get a couple of more chances to try to qualify.

Our womens recurve team beats Colombia 6-2 to reach the SF. They had a bad first end losing that 49-54 but came back strongly to win the next 3 ends ( 57-48, 52-51, 50-47) .

We meet Japan in the SF. Korea and Russia meet in the other SF.

India win the first set easily 56-48 to lead 2-0.
Japan win the second set 55-54. They looked to continue their bad form to start with 2 8's but came back strongly with 3 consecutive 10's. Only 1 10 for us in that set.
Japan win the third set 52-48. One bad 5 by our archers. Japan leading 4-2 now. A win in next set will take them to final.
