We win the set 4 , 56-53. Good comeback after losing last 2 sets.

So, it is tied at 4-4 with a shoot off to decide the winner and finalist. Each archer to shoot 1 arrow.

Yes, that was a shocking SF result of Russia's win over Korea. I think we have a great chance now to get a world championships gold for the first time.

This is a report with some of coaches's comments on yesterday's performances -

Women Archers Stay on Course to Recurve History in Copenhagen
Coach Purnima was elated with the girls’ showing and quite pumped about the flawless tiebreak they played against Japan in the semis. All three shot perfect 10s to bury the competition 30-27. “I’m very proud of the way the girls competed. The conditions weren’t easy to deal with, but they buckled down and performed when it mattered most. The tiebreak was one of the best I’ve witnessed and maybe it’s a sign that they’re peaking at the right time. But we can’t forget that Russia upset the Koreans, so we’ll be prepared for the battle,” Purnima told Express from Copenhagen.

In the individual eliminations yesterday Mangal Singh Champia in mens recurve, Laxmi Rani Manjhi in womens recurve and Rajat Chouhan in mens compound won their 3 matches and made it to the last 32. Deepika Kumari in womens recurve, Jyoti Surekha in women compound and Abhishek Verma in mens compound are already pre-seeded in last 32 due to performances in qualifying.

So, we will have 1 each mens recurve and womens compound and 2 each in womens recurve and mens compound trying to fight for medals today. Either will have win at least 3 matches today to have a chance to be among medals though.

As I see both Deepika and Laxmi Rani will be up against Chinese in the R32. So, it will be tough.

From the Rio Olympics perspective, the most important result will be of Mangal Singh Champia. He will have to be hope to be among the 8 top archers among those who have not already qualified thru team qualifications. 18 archers from non qualified teams have made it thru to the last 32. So, Mangal Singh will have to win his next match against Spaniard at least and hope that there are only 8 left in last 16 of the non qualified teams.

That will be played on Sunday.

In the meantime mixed start for us today. Deepika Kumari lost to the Chinese in a close match while Laxmi Rani Manjhi won.

[R32] Laxmirani Manzi (IND) d. Wu Jiaxin (CHN) 7-3 (29-29)(27-26)(29-23)(27-28)(28-27)

[R32] Deepika Kumari (IND) l. Qi Yuhong (CHN) 4-6 (29-27)(26-27)(28-25)(25-26)(26-27)

Bad last 2 ends by Deepika cost her the match after leading 4-2.

And she win the QF too in a shoot-off against the Mexican archer. :-)

[PQF] Laxmirani Manzi (IND) d. Kristine Esebua (GEO) 6-0 (27-24) (30-25) (27-26)

[QF] Laxmirani Manzi (IND) d. Alejandra Valencia (MEX) 6-5 (27-27) (28-29) (28-27) (27-28) (29-28) (9-8)

She is now starting the SF against the Taiwanese archer.

[SF] Laxmi Rani Manjhi (IND) l. Lin Shi Chia (TPE) 4-6 (28-28) (26-26) (26-28) (27-27) (27-27)

1-1 after first end ( 28-28).
2-2 after second end (26-26). Taiwanese shots a 7 when she needed only 8 to win that set.
2-4 after third end (26-28).
3-5 after fourth end (27-27). Manjhi has to win the next one to go into a shoot off. Tie will be enough for Taiwanese.
4-6 Damn, another tied set ( 27-27). Manjhi need a 9 on last arrow to take that end but only shot a 9.

Hard luck but an excellent performance by Laxmi Rani Manjhi to win 5 matches to go thru the SF.

She will fight for the bronze now against a Korean.
