Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Sensational world junior record by the Chandigarh youngster. This might even have been sufficient for a medal in Rio since pre-games marks of 89-90-plus normally do not happen in Olympics. He should be there to take the medal in the next two Olympics.

After winning he kept asking for an Indian flag but he didn't got the one because there were no Indian supporters present there

Has he shown this potential before mugu? Otherwise sounds like he is already on the good stuff.

Since mugu has already commented, it probably means he does not suspect vegetarianism. Otherwise he tends to keep quiet, I think. So I take it that no spinach is expected in the mealsSin Hombre wrote:Has he shown this potential before mugu? Otherwise sounds like he is already on the good stuff.

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Reputed coaches had commented (actually gone ga ga) about his technique and natural talent. So, this is not unexpected. At the end of the day, even Lance Armstrong had spinach. So, we don't know if he is supplementing his talent. Mugu and the rest don't suspect anything. It is a shame that he did not qualify for Rio. Again, if he was on spinach, he would have made sure that he qualified. Natural humans can't up their performance on demand always.
So, Jay, is this lukewarm comeback going to last? Or is it going to be another fleeting appearance?

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
He was expected win a gold and had thrown 82+ in February. Of course, he himself had not expected 86+ which came out of blue. But as Prasen said, if he was on spinach he would ensured he would have ensured that he qualified for Rio.

India’s latest athletics sensation Neeraj Chopra is brimming with natural talent
Our Australian javelin coach Gary Cavert has this to say about him-
Looks like a special talent indeed.Over the course of a four-decade long career, Calvert, rated as one of the world’s foremost authorities on the javelin throw, has coached several high performance athletes most notably Australia’s Jarrod Bannister, who threw 89.02m in 2008. Neeraj’s throw caught his attention not just for the distance thrown, impressive though it was, but rather for an aspect of its mechanics. “The javelin throw is all about getting the longest movement of the throwing arm in the shortest amount of time. Neeraj has an instinctive feel for the long movement,” said the barrel chested 61 –year-old Australian a week ago after one of his first training sessions with the Indian javelin throw national camp.
That appearance of long movement is generated by an elusive aspect Calvert describes as arm delay. “Most throwers in an attempt to throw the javelin as quickly as possible, don’t draw their throwing arm as far as they could. The longer they delay releasing their arm, the more distance they can get,” says Calvert. “Arm delay is something, you keep trying to drill into an athletes head. Today, perhaps just the best five throwers have that quality. (Jarrod) Bannister had it but it took 12 years for him to get to that stage. Neeraj already has that ability,” says Calvert.
Calvert has no doubt Neeraj, someone he says he has been watching for many months before he signed on as a coach with the AFI, is a rare talent. “He is someone you can watch throw all day. You can look at a 1000 javelin throwers and suddenly along comes this boy who understands delay. Even though he is a junior, and sometimes I can’t believe that, Neeraj just stands out amongst his competition,” says Calvert.

I hope it lasts, prasen. Never know. Will be gone for a week next week, but should be generally around after that.... Jayprasen9 wrote:So, Jay, is this lukewarm comeback going to last? Or is it going to be another fleeting appearance?

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Chopra has been consistent around 79.00m-plus this season. But the fact that he couldn't reach the 83.00m mark needed for Olympic qualification up to now through nine meets this year can raise a doubt or two when one views the latest 86.48 world junior record. His technique has been praised by the Australian coach. Youth is on his side. We may have to wait for a few more years to come to any conclusion, though. 86.48 is really stunning.Sin Hombre wrote:Has he shown this potential before mugu? Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Somewhat too young to turn vegetarian, no? I thought they go for that after they start seeing a bit of a plateau in the results, once they are in the senior ranks for some time...

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Not necessarily. In the junior ranks too it has been very common. Of course once they come into senior division and find it is difficult to make a mark, the temptation is greater. NC has been so consistent this season that it is difficult to assess. His 86-plus continues to baffle many, though.
