Tejswin Shakar wins NCAA title in high jump with an effort of 2.27M. This is the second time he has won NCAA title and apparently only second Indian to do so since Somdev-

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
In his first competition since Tokyo Olympics, Neeraj Chopra created new national record and personal best with a throw of 89.30 mtrs. at Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland. It could only get him silver here though as local Oiliver Helander threw his personal best with 89.83. Still, a brilliant performance by Neeraj first up getting back to competitions after 10 months.

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Great comeback by Neeraj Chopra to get a new PR and NR! It was a high quality competition with several other top throwers competing who finished behind Neeraj so this wasn't a case of throwing big in a highly favorable venue....

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
@mugu Isn't it too much to expect someone who is studying in the US to come to India for some selection event?

That too when the inter-state meet almost clashed with NCAA title. This is a related article-
Denied CWG spot despite meeting qualification standard, Tejaswin Shankar has no regrets
Denied CWG spot despite meeting qualification standard, Tejaswin Shankar has no regrets
“I have teammates from New Zealand and Australia. Those countries have their own nationals but the guys there know the kind of standard in the NCAA . They know the NCAA championship has a much higher standard than the New Zealand nationals. So they make it very clear that if you meet the standard we have set, then you will represent us. And the thing is that athletics is an objective sport. There are actually numbers that determine how good you are. Will something change if I’m in front of you? Will I suddenly jump better?” he wonders.

Neeraj wins his second meet at Kuortane with a 86.69 throw in rainy conditions. In both his meets this year, he has beaten the world’s leading thrower this year, Anderson Peters, so he is in very good form.

True. That too when NCAA was clashing with inter-State.
AFI's argument seems to be, Tejaswin did not seek exemption from participation while three others (Neeraj Chopra, Avinash Sable and Seema Antil) did and were granted. They said he never raised the topic when they were in touch with him. It is AFI's word against his.

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Good, Tejswin deserves to go to CWG. So, ok in this case but nowadays so many players are taking to courts when they are not selected for Indian team. I do now what is the use of selection committees if everyone keeps going to court and demand change in the team which is selected and how can the courts decide on that particularly the selection is subjective and does not have objective criteria like in case of Athletics.

I don't know why the federations need to be subjective in an in individual sport. That leaves room for all kinds of bias. The criteria should be laid out well in advance. It's good IMO that folks are going to court over this, will force federations to fix their practices.

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
The AFI is behaving like a typical bureaucratic organization whose purpose is to lay down obstacles for the athletes to overcome because of some petty benefit to themselves. A progressive organization should be looking to help the athletes. What were they looking for - a form in triplicate where they could reject his application on a typo? Otherwise, how hard would it have been for them to suggest that Tejaswin ask for that exemption as only the bureaucrats would know the own byzantine processes and its requirements.

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Shankar and four others added to squad. Final inclusion will depend on IOA increasing quota.
