Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Whom to watch out for ? Sreeshankar in Long jump ? Can't really name anyone we can even hope for finals. Himadas has back injury so not competing in 400m run but okay to run the relay...how so, convince me please!!I I think she is doing everything in her capacity to become another mediocre athlete who wants to compete in low profile events and fill her cup board with Gold medals.

I think she is out of relays too. And it's not as if she is not competing in the 400m run but she has not even qualified for it.srini wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 9:52 am Whom to watch out for ? Yes, somewhat dissapointing effort from Sreeshankar who is still quite young.
MP Jabir made the SFs in the 400 MH by finishing 3rd in his heat with a timing of 49.63 (with first 4 qualifying). He had the 5th best PB in his heat, so a good performance from him.

Mixed relay team into the finals and seal their berth for Tokyo 2020.
Finished third in the heats, could have finished 2nd if not for the baton exchange mess towards the end.
Overall 7th best timings.

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
So did some analysis of our mixed relay chances at Tokyo.
If Hima can come back and improve by 2s from her current performances in 2019, which in itself sounds impossible, but is only 0.5s faster than what she ran as an 18 year old at the Asian Games last year before her spectacular regression this year (does anyone have theories on why?), we will be the clear 5th fastest team in the world behind the US, Jamaica, Bahrain (puke!) and GB.
It is not impossible for 1 of those teams in front of us to mess up on the start or on the baton exchange (always seems to happen) and another of those teams to have one athlete caught doping (like it happened with Bahrain at the Asian Games) to allow us to sneak in.
That said, very faint chance and needs Hima to get over whatever is ailing her this year (hopefully not lack of spinach).

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Finished 7th, lost at least a second in the handover between legs 2 and 3 as our athlete ran into someone who was finishing leg 2 and was in the way.
We should do what Poland does and go m-m-f-f assuming Hima is in form by the Olympics. Keeps us out of the baton mess.

In women's javalin, Anu Rani threw 62.43M for new national record and qualified for the final in 5th place. That is an excellent performance.

And Annu Rani qualifies for the final in Women's javelin with a new national record of 62.43(breaking her own national record of 62.34 set this year). She finished 5th in qualifiers.

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
How is she improving so much at age 27?
Don't want to cast doubts so hopefully someone here has heard a more uplifting reason for this.

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Anu Rani won a bronze in Asian games 2014 when she must have been 22 with an effort of 59.53. Then, in 2016 she won crossed 60M in national open when she was 24. So, going by her those efforts this improvement 3-5 years from those marks looks ok. It seems in the intervening period she had gone down- probably some injury issues. In March this year, she had thrown 62.34 and has been throwing consistently above 60 in international meets since then.Sin Hombre wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 12:32 am How is she improving so much at age 27?

Actually 62.43 for fifth place is a bit high as other seems to have under-performed. Of course she will have to improve by 2-3 meters more to have any chance of a medal at world level which may be beyond her. But, if she maintains this level or may be improve to around 63M level, she will still be likely to finish in top 8 which is vary rare for us in Athletics at world level.

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Is it Anu or Annu?
She started by throwing sugarcane sticks across the field at age 10 or so. When our athletes do not get proper training early on, their technique is iffy. Their fitness standards can also be improved. That said, she has been in this field for over a decade now. I hope it is not spinach.
Half the athletes in the world are dope cheats anyway. So, the probability that it is spinach is quite high irrespective of the person or performance.

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
And another national record here.
Avinash Sable created a new national record in 3000m steeplechase with a timing of 8:25:43 and finished seventh in his own heat and 20th overall. With only 15 qualified for final, he was out at first but after an Indian protest as he has fallen 2 times on the track due to the man in front of him has fallen 2 times, he was directly added to the final. This is the 3rd time in a year that Avinash has broken national record and may be a 4th is in the store.

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Man, bad luck for the guy. Man in front of him fell twice in the same race! But, thanks to whoever took the right decision to let him run the final.
