Indian boxers do well in an international meet.

http://in.rediff.com/sports/2006/feb/06box.htm

It does seem that Indian boxing is getting back on track. Boxing used win so many medals for us earlier in Asian games earlier. But last few years things have not been so good. Hope by the time this Asian games in Doha, Indian boxers are well prepared to bring some medals.

India has many tough people. HOpefully they regain their form back in boxing. Indian boxing team did great in Commonwealth games. They got lots of medals. It will be good after they perform well in olympics. India has talents. its obvious. We have to use these talents properly.

Pradeep Singh from Australia just won the Oceania Pacific Boxing belt, which is like the step toward the world titles. Tonight I saw the boxing match in Knox, Australia (I live between India and Oz) between Pradeep Singh and Eiji Nakamura, I know ppl who train at the same gym as Pradeep and they only say he will be world champion. He came to Melbourne from Haryana, he cannot speak much english but he is becoming famous with Indians here.

Why am I telling you this? Because he is only 19, Middleweight, undefeated as a professional and now the step is to aim for a world title. There are not many Indian pro boxers and in every fight he still wears his Indian team shorts (from amateur days) and I think he can challenge for a world title. Keep an eye for him, his strength is accurate punching and defense, weakness is maybe inexperience and no knockout punch.

Hopefully some Indian boxers will switch to professional boxing in the future because that is where the real recognition is. Imagine a world title match in India. I will try to get more info on Pradeep

I hope the other two make it as well.  I think at least a couple of Indian boxers have come within  1 victory of an Olympic medal although the proliferation of the former Soviet states have made this a more competitive sport now.

At World Boxing Championships Chicago 2007

51 kg (Flyweight) -
[PQF] Jitender Kumar (IND) l Georgy Balakshin (RUS) PTS 9-14  points sheet

60 kg (Lightweight) -
[PQF] Jai Bhagwan (IND) l Darley Perez (COL) PTS 7-16  points sheet

So our both remaining boxers couldn't produced Lakra's result to grab Olympic quota ... So now from this World Boxing Championships only 1 Indian boxer qualify for Beijing Olympics.

For Beijing Olympics total 69 quota places r allocated to Asia ... So now 24 Asian boxers confirmed their Olympic quota after quarter-finalists decided in World Boxing Championships ... So still 45 places r remaining, so hopefully our boxers grab few in next events.
