Thanks sameer. I had predicted it a few years ago, but hadn't followed kabaddi to know that we have already started losing to them. Crap! Damn Iran :)

India also beat Kazakhstan 100-90 to make the QF.
I watched highlights of the India-China match, and the notable feature was the selfless passing, especially as they approached the basket (wish the hockey team could learn from them!). Talwinderjit seems a real star.

And, of course...

Basketball: India crushed by Iran 47-77 in quarter-final of FIBA Asia Challenge

Was there a doubt? It's Iran we are talking about, after all! I mean, really, it's amazing what a hopeless feeling I get when I see "Iran vs India".

In the classification matches, we lost to Japan 66-77 but than beat Taiwan 80-68 to finish 7th. Very good win against Taiwan whom we had lost to earlier in the tournament.

It does looks as though there is some improvement in our basketball standards.

In the final, Iran thrashed Korea 77-47. So, it does look as though they are way ahead of rest of the Asian teams.

Shireen made a jump shot with 3 seconds left and the score tied at 73-73. Wow. Give a big assist to the crowd at the Kanteerava arena. They made the Kazakhs miss many free throws it seems. The unruly Indian crowd can cause hell in basketball! Jay

Thanks Jaydeep. Youtube brought up this video that is a little clearer. She threw up basically a standing 3-pointer!

Satnam Singh, who was drafted by Dallas Mavericks, is back in India. Looks like his NBA career is kinda done? Not sure. But I am sure he has learned a lot. Ready play for India, he says - The incredible story of Chhotu, the 7’2” village boy.. (Yourstory.com)

Meanwhile, India is in the Asia-Oceania qualifying for the 2019 FIBA world cup, trying to be among the 7 teams that make the field from Asia, out of 16 playing 4 pools. I think this is the first in quite a while that we have made it into the Asian 16. We are in pool C with Lebanon, Syria and Jorda. A poor start so far in home and away matches. We lost last Thursday in Lebanon, 72-107, and we lost today at Bangaluru against Syria, 57-74.

The top 3 teams from each pool advance to a second round of two pools of 6 each, with the top-3 on each pool and the better 4th place team advancing. I don't think we stand much of a chance to avoid being the last team in or first round pool and advance to round 2, but at least we seem to have improved from how bad we have been in the past to at least make this tournament....

India to host 3X3 basketball Olympic qualifier in Mar. 20 teams to participate each on men's and women's section. 3 teams per section will get selected from this qualifier. Hoping for miracle as they will play in home
