Whoa, that is a really good start. Can we keep it up against Taiwan?

Terrific start for our boys and I m really hoping that they will continue this trend in their next match against Taipei.

Great win but just a point to point out that the Philippine team was full of amateurs directly taken from collegiate and none of them play in PBA(Philippine's basketball league).

If that was the case then expected result in second match ... Chinese Taipei convincingly defeated Indian men.

India (Rank#53) l Chinese Taipei (Rank#48) 66-90

Spectacular win for India over China, especially because it is a repeat from a surprise victory that India pulled off in 2014 in Wuhan (China); this time it was in Teheran.
Despite the loss to Taiwan, Indian Basketball looks promising and on the move.

India play Group F winner Iran in the QF. Iran has won all its matches to top group F and beating them will be a tough ask.

Yes, beating China was a complete surprise (although no idea if this was China's top team or some developmental team). Other than the loss to Taiwan, they were also blown out 65-121 by Jordan who in turn lost to China. So, they have mixed in some really good results with some really poor results...

I think if not their top team it was at least a good team that China is fielding. They beat Taiwan 93 - 88 , Jordan 94 - 76 and Philippines 75 - 65. Match against India was their only loss at group stage.

Yes, our losses with poor scorlines against Taiwan and Jordan are a bit puzzling in that context.

Iran seems to be absolutely dominant here against good team. So, I do not expect anything in QF.

It may be the matchups or maybe some dude got hot (or cold) on a particular day. Happens.

Iran? Just fold the tent and go home. Except Kabaddi, we don't beat them at any team sport. The size and matchup advantages we occasionally get against others (even China and Japan) seem to disappear in every sport, against Iran. It's like in volleyball. Like I once wrote, there are three certainties in this world - "Death, taxes, and Iran beating India in volleyball". Pretty much the same in basketball and football. We just don't beat them. Just pray that they don't start playing cricket, because we WILL start losing to them in kabaddi soon, despite a delay due to the pro league now (in which they will start playing too, I suppose!). Damn you Iran :)

Jay, the Iranians are already playing in pro Kabaddi league in India. This is the article from last year's Asian Beach games where India lost to them in league but narrowly beat them in final -

Now Iranians raid India’s traditional stronghold — kabaddi
Indian coaches had studied the Iranians with awe. So much so that four of the squad members were soon auctioned off to PKL franchises. Among them, 23-year-old Hadi Oshtorak and 27-year-old Meraj Sheykh were sold for a combined Rs 41.2 lakh to the Telegu Titans.

Sheykh went for Rs 20.1 lakh while his compatriot’s Rs 21.1 lakh capture shattered the previous Rs 12.8 lakh high-sale record held by an Indian to become the two highest paid in the league. Iran skipper Fazel Atrachali was sold to U Mumba for Rs 4 lakh while Mohammad Maghsoudlou got Rs 7 lakh from Jaipur Pink Panthers.
