So far the three biggest traditional volleyball powerhouses of the world have won their semis - Brazil, Russia and Italy. Iran also lost their QF (to Brazil). The 4th semifinalist should be home-team Turkey who will now play France. The loser plays India for the 5-8 spots. Iran-ARG is the other 5-8 semis. Jay

Maybe we should change the title of the thread to Indian Volleyball instead of putting the championship in. When the first post was made to this post after a while, I was confused as to how the European/South American teams are playing in the Asian championships. Then, I figured out what was going on. To prevent having a moderator change things in the future, we can make it more generic and let it keep going.

At the world u21 placement matches, we played the home side Turkey again today, and just like in the first match in the pool, we lost to them in straight sets again. We scored 50 pts last time and scored 61 this time. So a tad bit more competitive.

[5-8 placement] India l. Turkey, 18-25, 23-25, 20-25.

Iran beat Argentina in the other placement match. So we next play ARG for the 7-8 placement.

Thanks Jay. Here's hoping that we finish at a high note with the #7 spot and don't treat it as a dead rubber.

I am sure we won't take it as unimportant, but ARG may not be that easy either. I am still glad that we got to the final-8. Finioshhing with a win will be really nice! Jay

India lost last match as well, but after winning 2 sets. Ended 8th place, same as last time. But still being in 8th place in world stage is good achievement

In Asian Men's volleyball Championship, India shocked Australia in 5 setter. Australia is ranked 11 in World and India is ranked 30. In first match, India lost to Qatar. So having lost to Qatar in first league match, defeating Australia is really a shocking performance...

On a side note, In recently held world championship qualification, India lost to China in Pool C and hence won't able to participate in WC in Poland.

that's pretty good news :D they are playing the all-important match against Bahrain tomorrow. It will decide whether they move into the QFs or get relegated to playing 9-16 places. Anyone with live links for these matches? I remember these tournaments being streamed in the past.

But India have nobody else to blame then themselves. How could they have lost to lowly Qatar, which everybody else beat quite easily?

Yeah - I really hope whoever edited Wikipedia knows what they are talking about, because that shows us meeting China, followed potentially by Australia who we have already beaten. No Iran before the final.

yes, I hope they are right, even though China is equally or perhaps more difficult to beat. The AVC's own website is clueless. It does not have a place to see the schedule or draw. only some news a few days back.
