Who knows our sports federation may have age limits for players like BCCi does for coachesPKBasu wrote: Tue Jul 30, 2024 8:36 am One of the Serbian pistol shooters in the final is 51 years old. I wonder why Jaspal Rana didn't continue his career, or didn't revive it -- especially after pistol shooting was introduced into the Olympics. Anyway, he has coached his ward to two bronze medals. Kudos to him! (Apparently operating without a salary for 3 years...).

Still can't get over Dhiraj's heartbreaking loss in archery, he couldn't have shot any better than this.

Nothing to complain about in this loss. Sometimes your capable opponent is also in a zone and that is what it seems happened here...

Yeah, we all feel the same way. We know when it is a choke. This wasn't one. He lost to an opponent who got into an unbelievable zone with 8 tens in a row and hit one a bit closer than him in the end. What do you do? ... You can only tip your hat to the opponent. I hope everybody around Dhriaj is telling him the same.

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
Finally watching this bout.
Preeti definitely won round 1. Lots of screaming from the Colombian but nothing connected until the last 20s of the round.
The Colombian should have won round 2 but she was holding a lot which should be penalized.
Preeti tired in the last round and the Colombian should win round 3.
I don't think we can have too many complaints. I also have Colombian winning 2/3 rounds if I ignore the holding from her.
Preeti will be back though, she needs to work on her endurance.

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
A bit disappointed to see both Preeti and Dheeraj lost but looks like both gave their best looking at scorecard ..
Hard luck but very well played- hope Dheeraj gets us a mixed medal ( tough given paired with Ankita but let’s see )

Badminton 0-1
Shooting 3-5 ( really really hoping )
Wresting 1-2

So 5-13 … geez 13 seems way to optimistic but I will be happy with 9 or so ( All depends on what shooters do )

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
By the way, is "Manu" her full first name? Manu is typically the name of a male, as was the original son of Brahma and Vishnu, from whom mankind emerged, as per old Indian beliefs. The English word "Man" comes from that too, as does the Sanskrit equivalent word "manushya". I know a few Kerala Manus and one UP guy named Manu too. I haven't met any female Manus though... Thus I wonder.
Anybody know if her name is the short form of some longer female name?

Manu is a common name in the Delhi/Haryana area for girls. I knew a few growing up. You will also have some boys called Manu too.

Okay, I guess it is a female name too, then. There aren't too many Indian names that are given to both men and women!
But really, why are there so many good sports men/women from places like Jhajjar in Haryana? It is quite amazing. Haryana keeps producing medals for us. Only two Kerala people have ever won a medal. Manuel Frederick in 1972 and PR Sreejesh in 2020; both hockey goalkeepers!
