Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Well we had our best ever outing at the world fencing championships just last week where Bhavani Devi, our best fencer ended at T21.

Indian Fencing thread
We have started doing quite well now in fencing, particularly Bhavani Devi. So, creating this thread and moving recent post by Sufyan here.

Re: Indian Fencing thread
Fencing is another sport that india could potentially do very well. It probably does not require tremendous athleticism but requires reflex/speed and endurance. Not sure if the speed is required at levels that would make it harder for indians.

Re: Indian Fencing thread
Can we start winning medals at Asian level to start with ? I do not think we have anything even at level so far. Anyone aware where Bhavani Devi ( who seems the best Indian fencer - men or women) stands among Asian fencers ?

Re: Indian Fencing thread
Maybe Sir Jadeja should be asked to change sports and partcipate in fencing. His sword celebration is the closest we have to demonstrating success in fencing. . His all-round credentails would be well established then.
After all even Kapil Dev tried establishing himself in other sports playing golf and turning out for East Bengal in football.

Also it is a low participation sport, so easier to do well by having an academy and some investment. Surprised that the Chinese haven’t been able to dominate it yet.

Re: Indian Fencing thread
Seems like Punjab holds state-level fencing tournaments. Patiala evens win title in Oct. In the National Games, Punjab one a medal. Gold in the women's individual and team. The other good state is Haryana, who also won individual and team medals. Haryana medals. Are these two teams the best or do we have other pockets where fencing is "practiced"?
