^^^ But the archery and shooting event in Chandigarh was cancelled in the end after all that, last month. Basically, Batra screwed up and got taken for a ride, I guess. https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/sport ... arh-277614

India should just withdraw from this useless Commonwealth Games, as initially planned. This kind of bait-switching should not be allowed.

Indian hockey team has withdrawn from 2022 commonwealth games

https://indianexpress.com/article/sport ... m-7553931/

Why did they not send a junior squad? I agree that there was no point sending senior squad considering that Asian games are just around the corner.

It is tit for tat which is going on.

First UK imposed 10 days mandatory quarentine even for fully vaccinated travelers coming from India. India retalliated and announced same restrictions on travellers from UK. Yesterday, British hockey team pulled out of junior World Cup due to those restrictions and now India follows with this withdrawal.

https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/covi ... index.html

The delay in approving the Covishield vaccine appears to be because of fears over vaccine certificate fraud. The British high commissioner to India, Alex Ellis, has said that "Covishield is not the issue," but suggested instead that the exclusion of double-jabbed Indian travelers from the UK's quarantine waiver appears to be because of unresolved issues on India's vaccine certificates.
Chance of a traveler getting a fake vaccine certificate seems very low. When I can get free vaccines, why would u pay for fake certificate? Further the percentage of India population that is vaccine averse and are international travelers is probably minuscule.

This whole vaccine certificate bull-crap from UK is nothing but racism. Period. Case closed. All you need to do is to look at the handwritten little card CDC gives out in the US. Well, it is not given out by CDC and it does not even have any security system, nor a unique CDC number or anything. Just a card blank on which the random fellow at the Walgreens pharmacy hand-writes something after giving you the shot. The world's easiest vaccine certificate to forge (and it has been forged plenty by people). Compare that to India's print-out, which, while it can be forged, can easily be cross-checked on the Cowin portal. Colonial racist thinking is the only reason they accept the ridiculous 1960s cards from the US and discards, no pun intended, India's well-set modern systems as suspect.

Ask the United piddly Island thieves' "Kingdom" to go take a hike. What the hell do they think they are? "Commonwealth". My posterior. Any day is a good day for India to permanently withdraw from this "Common wealth", which is nothing but how the thieves who stole other countries' wealth looked at their booty. Go to hell, thieves.

Can't be forged also Jay...The print out of vaccine certificate contains a unique QR code for each fully vaccinated person on Co-Win. It's well implemented than many developed nations like you said. Inspite of that UK does this to us, the word for the feeling we get is "righteous indignation".

I can give another reason to give a miss to the piddly games. Asian games happen just couple months after that and every sport fan knows an athlete can peak only once in that 3-4 month period. If an athlete wants to peak it better be at Asian games which has some Olympic quota. "Piddly" games give us nothing."2022 Birmingham" should be a definite miss.Period. Since Asian games almost always get scheduled right after Common wealth, i propose we should never be sending our elite players to piddly games if at all we have to send someone for these games after that in 2026 etc we can be sending U20 and junior players as a testing ground. May be some other nations like Australia, NZ are already doing that..can someone verify?

That was the cross-checking that I was saying. Just scan the QR code. But you think these guys in the US and UK know about scanning QR codes? haha... I don't know about UK, but probably no more than 5 percent of people above age 25 have any idea what a QR code is, or how to scan it, in the US!

The UK guy would look at the print out and think, "Yeah right, any naked fakir in India can create a print-out and tell me that the odd looking square pattern on this is some code. These coolies act like Ghandis and think they can fool me with their rope tricks. No way".... Then they look at the CDC card and think, "ah, this is even hand-written. Look how diligently these honest American white guy officials do it". That is what these bastards are. Racist to the core.

:Offtopic:
UK has now dropped the 10 day mandatory quarantine for Indian visitors who are fully vaccinated, means they are now saying Co-Win app certification holds good. If you think we were able to give a bitter taste of their own medicine by reciprocity measures and make it work you are mistaken...because bitter medicines usually work but not for piddly islanders. The catch here is they recognize Co-Win certifications only for Covishield and other WHO approved vaccines. So about 30-40% of Indian visitors may still still fall short on that.

I'm telling you, this was never about fight against Corona but was always about one-upmanship in the scheme of things. If the Indian government can make the Piddly government blink, the moment is this!! Just put in a new COVID measure only for UK saying India can remove quarantine restrictions only for people vaccinated with India made Vaccines like Covaxin or Covishield, and when media asks why it's done so say that the decision has been taken considering the dynamic situation UK is facing due to the surge of Corona cases and while India is sympathetic to UK situation, India is not prepared to handle any new variants which can possibly be caused due to untimely lifting of Covid protocols in UK. There would be more queries from disbelieving Piddly Broadcasting Corp like "Are you saying you don't even recognize WHO approved vaccines?" Then say "Numbers don't lie..WHO approved or not the Western vaccines do not seem to be as effective as when WHO approved and may be WHO needs to revise its approval in light of Delta variant which proved WHO approved vaccines may be having as low as 33% efficacy from Israel's data.

If this happens then we can feel we were able to give a a slightly more bitter taste of their medicine and have the one-upmanship for real.

I am fine with what you are saying but the vaccines are still effective. Even if Israel's data shows that, it also shows very high efficacy in preventing deaths and hospitalization despite the Delta variant. So, I would not be in favor of the "Numbers don't lie ... " line.

Numbers do lie if not used correctly.

Asian Games this time will take place a month after the Commonwealth Games. This was one of the reasons, if not the main reason, made out by Hockey India (arther Batra) to withdraw hockey team from Birmingham. "We can't be expected to peak twice within 32 days" and Olympics qualification would be at stake. Quarantine discriminatory restrictions ffor Covid were also cited though this (quarantine part) could have been easily left to the Govt.
Now that Anurag Thakur had spoken out against HI decision to pull out without consulting the Govt, there could be a rethink on the part of Batra and Co.
Talking of "peaking", one thought it should affect the individual discisplines the most. Like for example athletics. The Athletics Federation has already said it would take a call considering the proximity of the Asian Games. In any case, except for athletes like Neeraj Chopra and perhaps Kamalpreet Kaur CWG may hold very little hope for Indian athletes.
But when we talk of "peaking", the 2010 Asian Games also happened a month after the CWG in New Delhi. In CWG as well as Asian Games Indian athletes put up one of their best ever performances, if not the best. Thus, there could be two sides to this ""peaking", one you might peak too early for one games and ruin your chances for the next, and the other you might use the first as a preparation to perform at your "peak" in the next one.
In fact,. goalkeeper Sreejith had commented that with teams like Australia, New Zealand and England in CWG, it would be a good build-up for the Asian Games if India were to compete in Birmingham.
Someone pointed out on Twitter that Belgium competed in the European hockey championship a month before the Olympics. May be, some teams (some athletes) may know how to peak twice (in fact in athletics they do prepare athletes for two peaks on such occasions) and some may not.

India can always consider the option of pulling out of Commonwealth or Commonwealth Games (susbequently from Commonwealth championships also). In fact when the shooting inclusion controversy in Birmingham Games cropped up, Batra had suggested boycotting the Games altogether. That did not happen. Even in the present controversy the Govt thinking seems to be India should participate. Not just that, India should compete in all major sports as well seems to be the line of thinking. Pulling out of Commonwealth championships might not be welcomed by sportspersons since in many disciplines India bag quite a number of medals which could be rewarding for individual athletes as well.
