An interesting fact - The Japanese deputy PM says, Olympics has a curse that follows 40 year cycle. In 1940 it got cancelled for World war II , in 1980 Moscow Olympics 60 countries joined USA led boycotting and now it’s again 2020 Tokyo’s time, let’s see what happens!

One more co incidence is 1940 Olympics were also scheduled to be held in Tokyo which is now planning 2020 games but relocated for Helsenki and ultimately got cancelled.

But the latest news is Australia and Canada have already said that they are unable to send teams to olympics.

So,becoming more and more clear that it will get postponed. Lets see how much it gets postponed to - few months or next year.

Yeah, hopefully only a postponement.

By the way, isn't it funny how Australia and Canada are almost always together on anything (except cricket). They are like mirror images. Even on Corona virus. I think their graphs on Covid-19 are identical. I have noticed this on so many things, and statistical tables.

It is official now. Tokyo olympics is now postponed to 2021. New dates to be announced soon.

Wonder what they will do to the qualification process now. If they start everything afresh, it will be unjust for those who have already qualified.

But i guess for our out of form badminton stars like Srikanth, Saina this may raise hopes as the entries were to be based on rankings in May this year. Now it should be sometime next year.

The IOC should try to add some more qualifications and try to extend the number of entries wherever possible.

I think there is a limit to which the athletes can be acvomodatd in an olympic village. So, i dont think they can add athletes.

Well, that they have a year to add to and increase although Japan does not have too much land. They can ask people to come and go and not stay the whole time.

Awesome, so India will match the performance of the US and China in the medal count for the 2020 Olympics. :D

Hopefully, our prospects stay in form for 2021 as it did appear that we were on our way to our best medal haul in 2020.

Does that mean our tennis players in singles still have chance to qualify?

It will be clearer a little later when the new qualiification system is announced which can be done only after new dates are confirmed. But, for sports with a ranking based qualification such as tennis, badminton etc. the ranking date is likely to be somwhere in 2011 instead of June 2020 as was stated earlier.

So, Prajnesh,Sumit will have a chance. As also Saina, Srikanth, Lakshya Sen in badminton.

Oops, 2021. :D

But overall looks like, a lot of Indian players would actually benefit from this switch to next year. Hope Lakshya Sen improves enough by that time to get into top 16 and qualify. Also Neeraj Chopra who was just getting back from injury this year. He will have more time to get fully back on track and possibly aim for medal.

Provided our shooters keep up the form which they have shown last year, I think we only have better medal chances in Tokyo 2021 as compared Tokyo 2020.

I think our shooters will likely lose their current form, and they are our biggest hopes.
