In the first games in Singapore in 2010, we won 8 medals ( 6 silvers and 2 bronze) but only 2 medals ( 1 silver and 1 bronze) in last games in 2014.

This time, we seems to have good medal prospects and will hopefully will our first gold medal at the games.

According to me our medal prospects are as follows -

Shooting - Manu Bhaker, Saurabh Choudhari and Mehuli Ghosh have already won medals at senior level at Asiad/CWG. So, they should win medals here with a good chance of at least 1 gold among them if not more.

Boxing- Jyoti Gulia won a gold in world youth boxing last year. So, she would be favortite for medal her, possibly gold.

Wrestling - both our women wrestlers have medal chances.

Badminton - Lakshya Sen has a decent chance in boys singles

Our hockey teams would have some chance. Not sure about athletics but there are no known names there.

Overall, we should get back to 8 medal haul which we had at first games and should surely win at least 1 gold.

Haha. Good catch. Removed 2016 from title. :D

Only athletes born in 2001 and 2002 are eligible to take part here. So, Hima who is born in 2000 is not eligible.

Jeremy Lalrinunga looks like a bright medal prospect too. He won the world youth weightlifting silver last year and he has the highest entry this year. And with Chinese still banned he has a good chance for gold.

Yes, he too has a good chance of at least a medal if not gold. We look likely to get to 8-10 medals level here and more than 1 gold.

Tushar Mane wins a silver in mens 10M air rifle with a score of 247.5 in the final. Russian won the gold and a Serbian won the bronze.

Good start to the games with us winning our first medal within hours of games starting and Tushar Mane was supposed to be the weakest of the 4 shooters team here. So, hopefully one of the other 3 strike gold.

There will be another chance of a medal later as Talabi Devi has reached the SF in womens judo 44 kgs.

Talabi Devi lost in the final and wins silver.

Still, 2 silvers on the first day which is already better than overall performance in last youth olympics.

Tomorrow, Jeremy in weightlifting and Mehuli Ghosh in shooting appear our medal prospects.

I was wondering why do we have so less representation in wrestling at these games?
Did our players fail to qualify or is there limited quota for every country?

There were limited quotas per nations. Nobody has got more 4-5 wrestlers. A bit disappointing though we could not get any boys qualified here. It may be tough to get a wrestling medal here from 1 of the 2 girls with all the Japanese and Chinese around.

Mehuli Ghosh topped the qualifying in womens 10M air rifle with an excellent score of 628.1. That score would have taken her to the final of Asian games and world championships this year.

Final coming up in 5-10 mins. There is a strong Chinese shooter too in the final who has won a senior world cup gold.

Can Mehuli bring our first youth olympics gold ?

Oh dear, heartbreak for Mehuli. She was leading by 0.6 points with last shot to go and she shot a poor 9.1 on the last shot. She did not have any shot below 10.2 in 23 shots before that in the final and she shots a 9.1 out of nowhere when 9.8 was only needed to win the gold. :-(

Third silver for us at these games. Still searching for our first gold at the youth olympics.
