Thanks for the article, Atithee! So it needed Khade to come back to bring you back to the forum :D. Good to see you after a long hiatus!

Coming back to Khade's story, I am not really sure what to make out of it. While I am glad he is back, I am not sure if he can reach his former peak. I would, of course, be glad to be proven wrong. If he took up a job with Maharashtra government not knowing what the commitment was, I am sure he had the option to quit and seek employment somewhere else. With him being National champion, he would have easily gotten a position at other institutions that employ sportsmen. Maybe he achieved too much too young and lost his drive. It was funny to see him comment on the youngsters and their lack of hunger. I just hope that he found a new found vigor to reach heights that he was expected to. Good luck, Veerdhaval!

With games about to start another unnecessary controvery arose yesterday about giving accreditation to Saina's father-

IOA clears accreditation for Saina Nehwal's father after she threatened to pull out

I remember there was similar kind of controversy regarding Sania's father a few year back for olympics.

If I remember right, it was Sania's mother, not father, at the Rio Olympics. Anyway, I am not so sure about Saina's father's credentials in this case. I never knew he was associated with badminton in any capacity. When these players can travel to all tournaments with their regular entourage, I don't how having her dad stay with her in the village makes a big difference, or Sindhu's mom for that matter. I may be totally wrong, but I think Saina is simply taking advantage of her position to give him a taste of living in a sports village/big event atmosphere. He probably won't get a chance to go to Olympics, hence this! Again, I am totally speculating all this.

On a different note, two of our women gymnasts' coaches were not given accreditation to accompany them. Makes me wonder if Saina and Sindhu are misusing their star status!

Indian Olympic body slammed for denying accreditation to gymnast coaches
Recently, Aruna Reddy stunned India by winning the first ever bronze medal in the World Gymnastics Championship. Rhythmic gymnast Meghna Reddy has been training with Vavara Fillou, a Greek coach, and surprised us with excellent scores during the trials for the CWG Games. Both Aruna and Meghana are medal prospects and it is sheer callousness on the part of IOA to ignore the accreditation for the coaches of these athletes.

Actually, according to her he travels with her every where. Only this time they did not allow.
But more importantly, the issue is that he was initially approved and when he reached Gold coast he was not allowed inside. Nobody informed that he is dropped from the approved list. Also I think there are others also traveling on no cost to government basis including Sindhu's mother.

Yes, that is what seems to have upset her. That she had paid for his visit and Sindhu's father was allowed in similar circumstances. She probably also knew that things will not move with IOA untill she threatens not to play although she did not really mean that.

Anyway, hope that is forgotten now. We started well in our mixed team first round with a 5-0 win against Srilanlka.

Our first medal from CWG came today morning from Gururaja Pujari who won silver in mens 56 kgs. Lot of medals expected from weightlifting where the fields are weak. World championship gold medalists Meerabai Chanu coming up in few hours and gold is expected from her.

Meerabai Chanu wins gold in Womens 48 Kgs. with a total lift of 196 kgs.( 86 Kg, in snatch and 110 Kg. in clean and jerk). This is a commonwealth record as well as new national record. This lift would have won her a silver at the Rio olympics.

If she continues this, she is surely a medal prospect for Tokyo olympics.

Saurav Ghosal lost in the last 32 round! Dreadful result. No medals likely in the men's event then.

Yes, shocking loss for Saurav against world's 65th ranked player Chris Binnie from Jamaica. This along with womens hockey loss were bad results of the day for us.

Weightlifting medals ( 1 gold and 1 silver ) were on expected lines but Mirabai Chanu breaking her own national record when there was not much competition to push her was a special performance. We will have to see how she performs at Asiad later this year against tougher competition.
