Luge Mens Singles

Run 3 - 48.900 - 30th (+1.366)

Well done by Keshavan. To finish 30th is an admirable achievement. Unfortunately only top 20 get to go in the 4th run so that's the end of his Olympic career.

Jagdish Singh finished 103rd but it's amazing he even made it to the start line. Usual Indian bureaucracy.

Don't know what to make of these stories. Official apathy is certainly despicable and IF we are sending someone we should ensure that they have the best chance to be successful.

However, I do not see the point of sending a skier who can only beat the Tongan skier but pretty much no one else. In a country with limited resources, perhaps we should focus our resources on athletes that are at least capable of a top-20 finish (or teams in the top 10) and ultimately the medals will come from that group.

It's about taking part, not the winning. I find his achievement admirable in that he is able to be an Olympian despite all the hurdles in his way.

We have ArifKhan participating in winter olympics. He qualified by participating in intl competition in mall :p

He also did so in a surprising place: A shopping mall in the desert. Khan's qualifying run in the giant slalom happened at a competition at Ski Dubai – an indoor, refrigerated ski arena that manufactures snow, located inside a shopping mall in the United Arab Emirates.

Since Kumar is using this thread, will a moderator change the title to maybe "Winter Olympics 2018 - Present" and we can add the ending year replacing present if we do not use this thread anymore?

Interesting article about 100% man made snow in Beijing

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/beiji ... eid=yhoof2

Seriously raises questions about value and viability of winter olympics.

I feel badly for Vincent Zhou, who tested positive and cannot compete in the games. Yes, illnesses happen and people do miss things. But, when you test positive and are actually asymptomatic, missing an Olympics is heartbreaking. I do not really follow the Olympics but saw this article about him and felt really bad. Sometimes, players have been training for a lifetime for this one opportunity ... and it is gone ... Well, the world championships, etc. are there I suppose ... and there is always next time. Hope springs eternal.
