Re: Indian Gymnastics thread
And 22 seems a little old. Maybe not much of a growth potential? At least not as much as Dipa had?

Re: Indian Gymnastics thread
5 indians have reached the finals here, sounds like a minor level competition.

Deepa's coach talking about moving back to Produnova.
Dipa has no choice but to excel in Produnova: Coach
I think that is her only chance if she has to be in contention for medals at international level.

Re: Indian Gymnastics thread
Dipa Karmakar wins Bronze in vault in the FIG Individual Apparatus World Cup in Cottbus. It is a complicated process for Tokyo olympics qualification but this is one event which counts for that. She improved her score to an average of 14.316. This is a world class score. She would have finished 4th at 2018 world champs with this score. The 2018 world bronze medalist Alexa Moreno finished 4th in Cottbus. Chusovitina who finished 4th at worlds and 5th in Cottbus.
So, Deepa does seem to be back to pretty good even without her per vault Produnova. This may be enough for her to qualify for Tokoy but to go for a medal she will mostly need to get back to Produnova.

Yes, what a freak! She has to milk the Produnova to whatever she can. And, after she retires, hope she does a Gopichand!

Re: Indian Gymnastics thread
Anyone see Mumbai group V. Unbeatable on "America's Got Talent" during the past several years? Yesterday, I was watching many of their past highlights again.
In one of the shows, judge Howie Mandel said its the best performance in the history (15 or so years) of the show.
In another, NBA basketball great Dwayne Wade said that he never had his heart beat as rapidly as it did during V. Unbeatable's crazy acrobatic performance. And Mr. Wade won the NBA championships three times.
Just imagine if these kinds of poor slum kids who learnt acrobatics and dance themselves managed to get trained in gymnastics from an early age instead!?
We have had Indian American gymnast Raj Bhavsar win a gymnastics medal at the Olympics. And half-Indian Mohini Bhardwaj. And Deepa Karmakar come close. Considering our history in Yoga and flexibility, no reason why gymnastics can not give us more medals in future. No genetic excuses.
