Why is India not even participating in cricket at Asian games ? Even if the top team was playing against South Africa , they could have fielded A team & still could have won a bronze medal & why not womens cricket team ?

Re: ASIAN GAMES 2010 nov 12th to 27
I guess they don't feel that the primadonna cricketers would even bother to go, or would cost a lot of money? Probably they remember the time when our cricketrs went to CWG in 1998, didn't give a damn, and laid an egg..
Of course, ICC and BCCI have been idiots for decades about figuring out what needed to be done to truly spread the game. Making sure that India would be at every Asiad was the first thing I would have done, and of course they should have introduced cricket in 1982 at the Asiad when one-day cricket had already become popular. So cricket remains as a game that the world still doesn't care for...
Should have at least sent the women's team to Asiad though. That was stupid.

Sushil Kumar, Leander, Mahesh etc will all miss the Asiad, says HT and other newspapers
http://www.hindustantimes.com/specials/ ... 13075.aspx
I think there is no choice but to let Sushil rest if he is injured rtaher than risk more permanent problems. London is his next target.
That is not good news in tennis. I wonder if Rohan will be there. What is AITA planning?

What is the point in playing both RB-SD and LP-MB in the Commonwealth Games and they give the Asian Games a skip? They should have rested LP-MB from the CG and have them represent the country in the Asian Games. Then, you could play Yuki or Vishnu in the CWG. Would Rohan-Harsh work out? Who are the top competitors? Israel? Pakistan?

LP, MB are skipping Asiad because of World Doubles Championships that conflicts with Asiad dates. It looks like RB also would have a conflict. Can't blame them if they choose the WDC. It may have to be SKD playing with somebody else in doubles. Jay

Re: ASIAN GAMES 2010 nov 12th to 27
Mahesh is not certain of qualifying for world doubles finals based on current ATP team rankings. He & Max are just out at the moment. Leander & Rohan look good to qualify. I hope Mahesh will turn up for Asian games if he does not qualify for world doubles finals. Either way, we will have to call on perhaps the likes of Purav Raja or Vishnu for this in doubles assuming there will be 2 Indian doubles pairs in. ( Probably even Harsh Mankad ?)

Well, Harsh is the first one they should call in, if needed, as the next highest ranked doubles player and the most experienced one. If he is willing to go.. Jay

Israel is never part of Asian games. Pakistan is not a top competitior at all. ( Aisam is the only good player.) Main competitiors would be Japan, Korea , Kazakhstan , Uzbekistan, Taiwan etc.prasen9 wrote:Who are the top competitors? Israel? Pakistan?

Thanks Sameer. Israel was indeed at the Asian Games but a long time ago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel_at_the_Asian_Games Is there a deadline by which the team has to be entered? MB and Mad Max are #9 tied with the #8 team. So, they may have a chance of getting in, no?

India has finished 8th in the medals tally at the last 2 Asian games. Will we do better this time?
If the shooters do better and the boxers and archers join the party, we would have a chance to improve significantly. We won 10 golds last time. Could we win 15 or 20 this time?

Re: ASIAN GAMES 2010 nov 12th to 27
This is India's boxing team for Asian games -
49 kgs Amandeep Singh RSPB
52 kgs Suranjoy Singh SSCB
56 kgs Chhote Lal Yadav SSCB
60 kgs Vikas Krishan HAR
64 kgs V Santhosh Kumar SSCB
69 kgs Dilbagh Singh RSPB
75 kgs Vijender Singh All India Police
81 kgs Dinesh Kumar All India Police
91 kgs Manpreet Singh SSCB
+91 kgs Paramjit Samota RSPB
There are 3 changes from the commomwealth games team with Akhil Kumar not in the team. Also commonwealth games gold medalist Manoj Kumar is replaced with Santosh Kumar. This team was picked before commomwealth games. IMO, they should have waited till the end of CWG.
