Hmm ... Thought I would start a thread, as I noticed the news in The Hindu about this 5-year old. Varsha Vinod from Ambalappuzha (a few miles from my hometown) who is the youngest karate blackbelt. Check out all the news coverage from UK on her recent trip up there --
Black belt Varsha Vinod, 5, takes on UK karate champ Juan Moreno (London Times)
The real Karate Kid - is just five (The Sun)
Visit from Worlds Youngest Black Belt Karate Kid
Meet Varsha, black-belt holder in karate at the age of five (IndianExpress)
Karate kid surprises British champion (The Hindu)
She must be really good (or I want to know who her press agent is!) ..
Now, can we find a way to get Karate into Olympics? It lost out narrowly for 2012 and 2016. May be 2020 or 2024? ... I think it is already there in Asiad.

Re: Karate - 5 year old from Alappuzha the youngest Blackbelt.
Not sure that the standards for awarding a black belt are consistent across the world. My 7 year old seems to get a new belt every time he shows up for testing in karate. I recall my old club tennis pro. giving me a USTA 4.0 rating (advanced) in tennis when my tennis skills left a lot to be desired. These kids may be really good but I would take some of this "black belt" stuff with a large pinch of salt...
