Pankaj Advani become World Professional Billiards Champion!!! :notworthy: :bounce: :notworthy:

24 yrs old Pankaj lifted his first World Professional Billiards title defeating 9 times World Professional Billiards champion and defending champion Mike Russell ... Before this match Pankaj never won match against Mike Russell ... So winning match on such a big stage is amazing feat for Pankaj.

Pankaj started well and take early lead in first session ... In first session he scored 5 hundred breaks, highest was 226 pts ... Mike Russell managed only 1 hundred break of 193 pts ... Pankaj's average per visit on board was 63.0 pts in first session and Mike managed only average of 23.2 pts .. Until end of first session Pankaj was leading by 650 points, 1070-418 ... In second session Mike Russell tried to fightback but Pankaj was in no mood to lose advantage and matched Mike's game ... In this session both scored 3 hundred breaks, Mike's highest was 219 and Pankaj's was 147 ... But again Pankaj was better on per visit average, Pankaj was 33.1 pts an Mike was 26.1 ... So in end Pankaj scored comfortable win by almost 800 pts.

Congratulations to Pankaj Advani on beating Russell who has been the top player for some time now. Nice to see the emergence of Sitwala -- Geet's loss is expected as he doesn't play billiards full-time. It is a testimony to his talent that he can still duke it out with the full-time pros.

Before tournament Mike Russell tipped himself, David Causier and Geet Sethi as title contenders ... Luved Pankaj proved him wrong defeating all 3 players ... :notworthy:

I think it is time to make billiards an olympic sports. They could have singles, doubles, quadruples etc. in long and short format. This would give us a shot at 4-5 medals and is at least as interesting as the absurd number of events in rowing for example. :D

Indian national snooker and billiards championships are underway at Pune. So far Pankaj Advani, Geet Sethi, Ashok Sandilya, Shyam Jagtiani, Dhruv Sitwala, Alok Kumar, Rupesh Shah and B.Bhaskar have been very dominant in the group stages winning all their matches. Pre-quarterfinals start from today.

Excellent win for Dhruv Sitwala over Geet Sethi. Pankaj, Dhruv Sitwala, B.Bhaskar and Alok Kumar are in the semifinals.
Dhruv Sitwala Vs Pankaj Advani will be a mouth watering clash.

Alok kumar is the new billiards national champion. He beat Pankaj Advani 5-4 in the finals at Pune. Earlier Pankaj bt Dhruv 4-2 while Alok kumar bt Bhaskar 4-2 in the first and second semi finals respectively.

Pankaj Advani should be careful about his game which seems to be slipping. From being a world champion, he is not even a national champion now. He is our best young talent and something has to be done so that he gets back to being the top again.

Sooker championships are underway

Sandeep,

Beating Alok Kumar is never easy, it is a dogfight. So I wouldn't read much in that loss -- however, you do have a point.

Alok Kumar is a veteran and the match was always going to be tough. But being the champion Pankaj is, he should have won the title especially after leading 4-3 in the best of 9 format. Also, Pankaj has been the champion for last three years in a row, this loss definitely shows his poor form

Interesting to see that in a World Championship tournament being played in England, out of 32 players, half of them i.e. 16 players are Indian, 12 British players and 2 each from Qatar and Singapore.

Maybe this should be made a CWG event. Both ENG and IND will collect medals galore.
