Can't really vouch for that. I guess National championships in major centres would be eletronic. (The last one in Oct 2004 was held in Delhi and was electronically timed) As for meets like inter-university and some of the departmental meets, it could vary from centre to centre, year to year. All timings, however, are being given up to a hundredth of a second without indicating whether they are electronic or hand-timed. I will check this aspect out and post a clarification later. Thanks for the query; I am now more curious than yourself!

You are welcome BS.
But pardon me for the delay in replying to a query you had raised on this thread quite sometime ago. About heated pools. I just saw it. How careless of me.
In fact I had come back to this thread after months! That's why I am replying to gbelday and others' query about Indian performances so late. There is still some more updating to be done, which I should be able to do tomorrow.
But before I retire for the day, back to you BS and your query about heated pools:
To my knowledge (and I had made enquiries about this recently, without seeing your post! what a coincidence) there is only one. Delhi's Talkatora pool!
Shocking?
I believe there are a couple of others which have been designed to use solar-heating, but they are not functional as such.
And we talk about hosting Olympics by 2020!

Not as bad if they are solar heated. The pool at the KD Singh Babu stadium is supposed to have solar panel heating as well but am not sure if that is functioning. As mugu mentioned the Talkatora pool (indoor one) is heated. The main pool outdoors is not heated (to the best of my knowledge) and neither is the diving pool.

Thanks Dhurv..

I am not very familiar with Solar panel heating.. How low does the temp drop during winter in North India? Would that pose a problem with solar panel heating?

I am not very familiar with Solar panel heating..
See the link below about solar heating of swimming pools.

Swimming pools require temperature of water to be heated to about 80 degree F unlike the heated water that is required for home use. Solar panels work well in heating the pools where electric supply is unpredictable or expensive.

The temperatures can drop to about 1 to 3 degrees centigrade on some days but usually there is sunshine, which can help the solar panels to heat the pool.

It's interesting that 3 current swimmers have most of the National records. In particular, Shikha Tandon appears to be amazingly versatile, holding records in different strokes and in distances ranging from 50m to 800m. She should perhaps choose 2-3 distances to focus on and try and hone her skills to world standards in those.

With due respect to Shikha's (undoubted) talent, that reflects, more than anything else, the lack of depth/ competition in India.
