Md Asab wins the bronze at the shot gun World Cup finals, he qualified for the final after winning a shoot out with 2 other guys and shot 28/30 but missed the gold medal match by just. 1 point.

However he did not let that disturb him and came back with a bang 30/30 in the bronze medal match...wonderful performance and a hopefully he will carry the form to the AC and win us a medal and quota...

Great stuff from Asab. Barring a letdown , he should get a quota for Rio at Asian championships.

Asian shooting championship face IOC's wrath, lose Olympic qualifying status

This is the last thing we wanted given all our shooters are already in Kuwait ...this would mean another delay of few months

Yes, this is disappointing for those shooters. Now, they have to refocus and prepare again in the qualifying. This is the related article -

Rio Berth Seekers Disappointed Over Ku-waiting Game
The likes of Manavjit, Heena and Vijay will have to wait until early next year to get a chance to grab the quota. Bhatia informed that the last qualifiers will most likely be held in January or February 2016 for which India has put in a bid to host. Kazakhstan and Qatar are also in the fray.
It will be silver lining if the qualifiers take place in India.

In the Asian shooting championships (devoid of Olympic quota places now) in Kuwait, Heena Siddhu won the gold in womens 10M pistol. Earlier Jitu Rai won the silver in mens 50m pistol event. These are the only 2 medals so far from us in the senior section. There has been parallel junior and youth events going on where we have won a clutch of medals and in fact are leading the medal chart.

The field in senior events is still of a very high quality and it seems only Japan has pulled out but China and Korea are at full strength. So, Heena and Jitu's medals are quite credible.
Apart from Heena, Pooja Ghatkar and Omkar Singh would have got the quota places had this been a quota tournament.

Few more events still to come in this championships.

Asian championships concluded yesterday in Kuwait with India getting quite a few medals but only 1 gold from Heena Siddhu. Decent showing considering few of our top shooters - Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narag, Chain Singh, Apurvi Chandela did not participate.

If this event had it's quota status intact, we would have had 7 quota places to the olympics - Sanjeev Rajput, Heena Sidhu, Lajja Gauswami, Pooja Ghatkar, Manavjit Singh Sandhu, Neeraj Kumar and Omkar Singh.

That would have been great and would taken our total tally to 15 (much more than 11 at London.)

Hopefully, we still get at least 6-7 additional quotas when Asian qualifying event is held early next year.

We do get that opportunity, so hopefully our guys will make most of this.

Yes, that is good new. Now hoping for 6-7 quota there which will take our tally to much higher than London Olympics.

So, the last big chance for Indian shooters to grab a quota place for Rio olympics is here with Asian qualifiers starting tomorrow in Delhi.

Shooters' last chance to secure Rio quotas

35 quota places on offer. As I said earlier hoping for at least 6-7 for Indians.

We get our first Rio Quota of this championship , Heena Sindhu won the same in 10m air pistol event ....well done as she has missed quota 4-5 times by very close margins....

She won her 3rd consecutive Gold Medal in the process..

Yes, these are the detailed results -

Asian Olympics qualifying tournament, New Delhi

Womens 10M Air pistol

Gold Heena Siddhu IND 199.4
Silver Tien Chia Chen TPE 198.1
Bronze Gim Yun Mi KOR 177.9

Heena had also topped the qualification with a score of 387.

Her qualifying and final scores are both top class and with these scores she may even get an Olympic gold. With the quota firmly secured, Heena can now concentrate on preparing well for Rio and if she keep up this form, she is one of our better medal prospects for Rio.

Overall, this is our ninth quota place for Rio Olympics.

Kynan Chenai wins our 10th quota place in the trap event , he finished 4th...However it was a disappointing day in general with Vijay Kumar missing out on quota in 25m rapid fire , Manavj Sandhu, Prithiraj missing the finals and quota chance in the trap event ..

Yes, bad misses by experience shooters Manavjeet Sandhu and Vijay Kumar today. But, still with 10 quotas we are now close to London tally of 11 quota. Hopefully, we will get much ahead of that by the time this event finishes.

Last Olympics silver medallist Vijay Kumar will miss altogether it seems unless we exchange some other quota to get him in.
