Yes,that could be a factor but Manu has been shooting consistently in all 3 events in all the world cups and doing well. By her pulling out of one of the 3 events will her chances increase in the other 2 events. There is no way to validate that this will happen. Also there is a well documented selection policy by NRAI for international events and in that Manu is well ahead of Chinki and it will be difficult for Chinki to overtake Manu before Tokyo olympics.

So, now we have 12 quotas so far for Tokyo olympics, same number as Rio but there were 3 quotas won last time in events which do not appear at this year's olympics. So, right comparison would be 12 vs 9 or if we include mixed team events and include discontinued events than 16 vs 12. That is very good improvement and could have been better if Anish and Kynan had not messed up at last moment.

Last chance for quota places tomorrow in mens/womens skeet and 50M rifle 3 positions.

First day of skeet was done today. We are nowhere in race in women but in men Angad Bajwa is in second place and Mairaj in sixth place, both in a position to enter final. 3 quota places here and only 2 Asians have so far got the quota. So, it will be tough. Hope we get at least 1 in shotgun.

Then, there is men 50M rifle 3 positions where Sanjeev Rajput has 1 quota for us. China has 2 quotas here and Korea 1. So, there may be a chance for a quota here.

I don't think they should exchange Chinki's quota unless there is a very strong reason to do so. Chinki's performances have been improving significantly over time, and she had better scores than Manu in these championships as also in the last world cup. Also getting another entry in skeet or trap or 3P does not buy us anything.

Both sides have valid arguments, this is one where we should play it by the ear.

We have more than 6 months before we need to confirm who goes. Enough time for another Saurabh to emerge if I may be optimistic but also for the relative form of Chinki or Manu to change.

sameer, Anish will still qualify as of today's world rankings. We have no quota spots and he is the highest ranked shooter in 25m pistol who has not qualified from a country with no quota spots.

Assuming Anish does get in, in terms of quota spots, the fair comparison would be 17 vs 12 assuming no further additions.

In terms of quality quota spots, we only had one last time around in Jitu and have 8 this time.

Yes, Sinhombre. But, rankings as on 31st May, 2020 will be considered. So,there is a long way to go. Anish will have to be consistent in world cups before that and try to improve his ranking. Kynan Chenai also has a chance thru that route if he puts strong performances in world cups.

In the meantime today 18 year Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar has made it to the final of 50M rifle 3 positions. 2 Chinese and 1 Korean are quota ineligible. So, 5 to fight it out for 3 places in a final which starts in 10 mins.

In mens skeet, both Angad Bajwa and Mairaj messed up their last round and ended with 120. They are on edge of qualifying and will be in a large shoot off to make it to the final.

And 18 year old Aishwary Pratap Singh wins bronze in 50M rife 3 positions and wins quota #13 for us for Tokyo olympics.

Now, only skeet left where Angad and Mairaj are in a shoot-off between 8 shooters for 3 spots in the final. So, it is a long shot there, first to reach the final and them get among 3 quota places.

Yes, both Angad and Mairaj made it thru a shoot off and reach the final of 6. Kuwait has 2 shooters in the final and 1 has already earned it. So, 5 shooters fighting for 3 spots. Final in about 15 mins.

Yes, super performance by both. Gold for Angad and silver for Mairaj. I think first time ever we won gold and silver in skeet at the Asian level. And after a poor last round, both came thru a tough qualifier to finish top 3 among 8 and then finish top 2 among 6. Excellent !! And it makes sure that we will have representation in shotgun at Tokyo.

So, overall 15 quotas against 9 from last time ( like to like comparison for events in both games) and 19 against 12 ( if we we include 4 mixed team places this time and the 3 which were discontinued after last olympics). And we missed 2 quotas by narrow margins- Anish in 25M pistol and Kynan in trap. Hope at least 1 of them gets added thru ranking route next year.

In terms of nations with highest quotas, we are joint third. China and USA leading with 21 out of possible 24 quotas and we tied with Australia at third with 15 quotas and of course Australia got many quotas thru easier Oceania championships, Korea just behind with 14 quotas.

Our best ever performance in terms of getting quota places to the olympics. Now time to convert that into our best ever performance in terms of medals at Tokyo.

Kynan will find it very hard to qualify through the rankings. Even the Italian world #1 is yet to win a quota spot.

Anish just needs to maintain his current ranking for another 6 months.

Excellent performance by the whole team, NRAI deserves a big thanks for this
Honestly, did not expect any quotas in Skeet, but to win those two quotas with a Gold and Silver and holding those nerves at crucial moment. Kudos.

The only disappointment, was Anish and Chenai, who were painfully close from securing their Tokyo ticket as well, anyways, time to focus on all those who qualified, give them all the support and exposure they need, hopefully we get our best ever medal haul in Tokyo.

What is really heartening to see is the performance by our Juniors, they are dominating and winning Gold in almost every event, which shows the kind of future we have in this sports, one to watch out is Esha Singh.
