IMG Bharata in Hyderabad

Post by BSharma »

Andrew Krieger announced the setting up in Hyderabad of IMG Bharata, the first IMG training facility outside North America.
Where, What, How

The IMGB Academy, spread over 400 acres (a little over twice the size of the Florida flagship, which sprawls over 190 acres) will broadly be divided into training facilities for specific sports, and support infrastructure.

In the first phase of the project, the sports academies going up will be duplicates of IMG Florida's Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, the David Leadbetter Golf Academy; the IMG Soccer, Basketball and Swimming and Diving Academies; and the IMG Track and Field Academy.

Given the national passion for the game, IMGB will also put up a cricket stadium, surrounded by gyms, training facilities, dormitory facilities, high-tech rooms for video replays and analysis, et cetera.

Support infrastructure will include:

The International Performance Institute Gym, which provides the latest in training facilities coupled with cutting edge software to manage the individual athlete's development

The IMG Medical Centre, specialising in sports medicine services for alumni and visiting athletes, with areas of specialisation including orthopedics, physiotherapy, chiropractic, dentistry, internal medicine and general medicine

The High Tech Centre, the heart of the training program, equipped with the latest in computer and video technology, providing playback and analysis facilities and the entire range of technical infrastructure support for sport

The Mental Conditioning Centre, modeled after the Florida version, specialising in sports psychology and designed to help athletes develop the psychological and emotional strength needed to compete at the highest level.

The new AP government has a serious money crunch when it comes to sports.

Free electricity to the farmers brings more power to the politicians; building sporting facilities loses revenue and votes!

Hmmm!!! Very interesting articles
When power passed to the Congress last month, chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy made it clear that his government would take a fresh look at the project. Allegations have been levelled against the company and the Naidu government that the deal was one-sided and heavily loaded in favour of IMG-Bharata.
What does the paper mean by one sided and heavily loaded in favor of IMG-Bharata!!!
Given the national passion for the game, IMGB will also put up a cricket stadium, surrounded by gyms, training facilities, dormitory facilities, high-tech rooms for video replays and analysis, et cetera.
I cannot agree with this!!! Whatz the point ? BCCI has so much money and so many academies... one more in the long list.

All in all, great idea if it works... What investments are they expecting from the govt (apart fromthe land at cheap prices) that our beloved AP CM is not backing this project!!!!

Very interesting stuff, but it would be a shame if this became embroiled in politics.
Particularly intriguing to know of the possibility of Bolletieri getting thoroughly involved. But I'm surprised he didn't mention Karan at all in his remarks...

Kumar, apart from that, the deal also means IMG can use the stadia and should maintain it ( which infact is a plus for the govt) .

Maybe a stupid thought :D . Could it be YSR is opposing it b'coz he opposed the same project when TDP was in power. Opposition parties try their best to find loopholes in projects and YSR when in opposition found the land being given at cheap rates as unreasonable and so since he is now in power he can't change his stance suddenly. Or is it that he thinks that the project may be seen by poor people as pro-rich? These are the only reasons i can think of b'coz giving land at cheap prices is a common thing especially when 3-4 states are vying for it and if IMG is to be believed a couple of other countries too. I really hope it goes ahead :bounce:

BTW, the pics in the first link given by Bhushanji are the present stadiums in Gachhibowli in Hyderabad :)

Once the palms of the new government have been greased everything will be hunky-dori.
