I have recently become an amateur!!! after passing 50 posts. What are all the amounts of posts for whicch you get 'promoted'. Just wondering............
Also i was suprised to see myself so highly ranked in the new (?) statistics page!
I hope this post is not too general!

Oops, I suddenly realised that I hadn't answered the question. I guess as I was just making sure everything was ok I probably put this on my mental todo list and forgot about it.
Ok so the ranks and the associated posts are (note there are exceptions see below)
Of course if you abuse the system, you should know the admin, that is me, can set/change the number of posts for any user. Also, after a point in time I will change the number of posts required for each rank. Currently I think it is fair. If you think otherwise let me know
PS: The rank determines how many of those dots under your name are lit up. Also let me know what you think of the nomenclature. i.e can you think of other terms that I can use instead of Newbie.. Rookie etc etc.

Code: Select all
Rank Posts
Newbie >=10
Rookie >=50
Amateur >=75
Regular >=150
Veteran >=250
Elite >=500

Dhruv,
What does the rank of a member accomplish? Does it mean that if I am an "amateur" then my viewpoints should carry more weight than somebody who is a "newbie"? I surely hope that it is wrong because "quality" and "quantity" are often not synonymous! My suggestion is to scrap the "rank" system unless there is a valid reason that I am not aware of.
You and Jay are doing a great service to the Indian sports fans. I also enjoy reading the viewpoints of several members, and often there is a lively debate even if we do not agree with each other. This website is serving a very useful purpose and I appreciate the input of everyone involved with it.

No it doesn't. All it does basically is that
Also from the FAQ
I hope that explains what the ranks mean. Basically nothing except for more dots under the name
It is supposed to (theoretically) encourage users from posting more often. I don't really believe it works but basically it gives you an idea of how active or inactive a user is/has been on the board.PS: The rank determines how many of those dots under your name are lit up
Also from the FAQ
I could also add on the functionality so that users can judge/rate other users posts (i.e. approve or dissapprove) which would be a quality rating. However, I think that is something for the next version if at all.Most boards use ranks to indicate the number of posts you have made and to identify certain users. Please do not abuse the board by posting unnecessarily just to increase your rank -- you will probably find the moderator or administrator will simply lower your post count.

I like the ranks. Although they don't really mean anything they still sort of give a competetivness to posting on the site. As well as that, when i look at the statistics page ia almost feel proudd to have the 4th most posts. I sound lame, dont i!!!!!!!!!

Ok you can view the topic below for more info. I will update the numbers on that page since I have changed them since. Also if you are nice to the right people on this forum they might increase your rank

Aha, I thought there was an automaticity to these "rankings"...but apparently not!! There are two intermediate categories that have yet to have any members -- Regular and Veteran. I wonder whether anyone will attain those levels within a year of the establishment of the Forum. Perhaps Regular...but nkoth is probably the only one with a chance of becoming a Veteran by year-end (given the speed with which he has posted stuff in recent weeks...)!
Interesting system anyway...

Aw, come on now! I think there's a whole bunch of us that will hit that intermediate level before long!
Then again, that is a *lot* of posting, so we'll see. Guess it depends on how well our players do!

I've split the topic and moved it to the general discussion forum as that's where I thought it elonged. Also didn't want the global announcement being misused (even though I was doing it as well )
Anyway, I am going to relook at the ranks and how many posts you need to get to certain levels etc next week. (along with a bunch of other stuff that I said I'd do next week. procrasination ) So a bunch of you might have your ranks go up or go down depending on what kind of day I'm having when I make the changes

So now the ranks have been updated. It is "easier" now to gain the higher ranks. There you go all.
Cheers
