Most cases in Mumbai are asymptomatic anyway. Probably getting picked up because people are testing before flying.

Is a negative COVID test result still required to fly domestically in India? Do Gulf countries require them for Indians?

I am pretty sure most of the cases are symptomatic! for country of size, this is not a big number! There is probably lot more people with even milder symptoms are not getting tested!

For example, US where test kits are available for free and there is lot of ambivalence towards testing we are still seeing cases numbers around 100k

I don't think so. A small fraction are randomly tested on arrival IIRC.

Gujarat, Telangana also going up, as Maharashtra and Kerala seem to be ready to go through the roof.

The state-wise totals for Jun 10, Friday were: ANI 0, AP 22, ARP 0, ASM 7, BIH 10, CHD 35, CHG 23, DNHDD 0, DEL 655, Goa 77, GUJ 143, HAR 327, HP 25, J&K 11, JH 4, KAR 525, KER 2415, LDK 6, LKS 0, MP 50, MAH 3081, MNP 0, MEG 0, MIZ 34, NAG 1, ODI 20, PUD 7, PUN 55, RAJ 88, SKM 2, TN 219, TEL 155, TPR 0, UK 22, UP 204, WB 107

That takes the national total to a +8,332 and raises our average by +624 to 5,839... There were 5 deaths (2 in DEL and 1 each in MP, GUJ, UP), and KER added 5 more old ones.

With Delhi, Haryana and UP again rising, and TN, TEL, Gujarat, West Bengal, Rajasthan etc joining, this is right now getting close to a nation-wide wave. It could rise up quite a bit higher if we don't watch it. The death numbers aren't showing any big concern still.

Based on worldometer numbers, overall Fatality rate has dropped to around 0.25% world over which is probably 2.5 times higher when compared to influenza.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/112 ... age-group/

Stats for flu,
The impact of influenza in the U.S. varies from season to season, but in the 2018-2019 flu season there were an estimated 35.5 million cases. These cases resulted in around 16.5 million medical visits and 490,561 hospitalizations. Although most people recover from influenza without requiring medical treatment, the disease can be deadly for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems or chronic illnesses. During the 2018-2019 flu season, over 34,000 people in the U.S. lost their lives due to influenza.

Considering that lot of home testing numbers are not being reported, would those numbers be similar?

Anyway, doctor says to take paxlovid because I am at higher risk due to asthma. That apparently is the best available these days and kills some of the viral load and then your body does the rest. Problem is that I am traveling in Atlanta and so the friend circle is not there to get medicine etc. because I am quarantined. I think this shall pass, Atithee.
Prasen, Did u manage to get paxlovid? How are u doing?

The case totals for Saturday. June 11th were: ANI 2, AP 16, ARP 0, ASM 2, BIH 44, CHD 37, CHG 27, DNHDD 0, DEL 795, Goa 71, GUJ 154, HAR 411, HP 17, J&K 12, JH 0, KAR 562, KER 2471, LDK 2, LKS 0, MP 79, MAH 2922, MNP 0, MEG 2, MIZ 33, NAG 1, ODI 24, PUD 8, PUN 65, RAJ 76, SKM 1, TN 217, TEL 145, TPR 0, UK 19, UP 233, WB 139

That yields a national total of +8,587 which takes our weekly average of daily cases up by +615 to 6455... There was only 1 death (in MAH) and KER added 3 old deaths.

The national test positivity was around 2.7% (using the ICMR test total, which is always some 10-20% lower than the state-reported actual number)... The TPR for the past week is around 2.0%... The test total needs to go up a bit more from the 300K to 350K range per day that we are at now.
