An article highlighting the disadvantages of covaxin over covishield

https://www.news18.com/news/india/this- ... 43892.html

Not a bad article. Would have loved to see reference to whether covaxin was more effficient or the disadvantages of vector based vaccines, even though vector based vaccines can be scaled up.

Listen carefully from the 1:42 mark when he starts a long sentence. At around 1:48 you will hear him say "positivity 4.7%" :) ... Haha, the dude is funny. Every day he religiously reads things out at breakneck speed like this!

Eventually, fewer and fewer of us will have the option of either vaccination or infection; soon, most of us will be dealing in scenarios of and. With the virus so thoroughly enmeshed in our population, the order of exposures is inevitably shifting: More and more vaccinated people are catching the coronavirus and sometimes falling ill. Arguably, all of these pathogen parleys are boosts—but whether they leave lasting impressions on our immune systems still isn’t clear. Immune responses have both ceilings and floors; it’s not always easy to know what we’re knocking up against.
This is so true. Hopefully we all have the strength to handle the exposure when it happens.

We had +17.9K on Saturday, from about 1458K tests @1.23%... 213 deaths. The seven-day average dropped by a big 751 to 19,953... I didn't expect it to fall below 20K so quickly.

Only 7.1M vaccinations today. So we finished the week with only 42.8M doses (22.2M first doses, 19.6M second doses). Pretty bad week, compared to the last 4 weeks.

Not as good as I expected today in Kerala but no big issue. 10,691 cases from 81,914 samples at 13.05% ... It is still 1606 less than on last Sunday and should drop India's average by a -229 ...

Update: India had +19.0K cases today, from about 1354K tests at 1.40%... The seven-day average fell by -375 to 19,578... There were 193 deaths.

India is now 5th worldwide in the count of weekly new cases -- and at least 50 countries are adding more cases per capita than India. The US (572,467 new cases in the latest week, out of a worldwide total of just below 2.8 million) is far in the lead, followed by the UK (255K), Turkey (206K), Russia (189K), India (137K) and Brazil (108K).

^^^ Yes, we have been out of top-20 in per capita infection for quite some time, and outside of Kerala, it has been so for many months now. Still all these countries like UK were creating havoc for Indians travelers. I just don't see why the world is still hung up on all these travel restrictions when everybody has pretty high levels of Covid and nothing problematic has emerged anywhere since the Delta variant in India (in Vidarbha) 10 months ago. The US has been pretty reasonable/practical about travels though.

Only a +6,996 in Kerala today (from 66,702 tests at 10.49%), so it is 1854 less than on last Monday and KER contribution to India's drop is a -265 today. Only 84 deaths, which is good improvement on that as well. Monday tends to have relatively high death totals in Kerala as weekend deaths get added, and it was 149 on last Monday. Only 677 got hospitalized today, which is about 1/5th of what it was at the latest peak on Sep 1st (it was quite a bit higher at the peak in May). Finally Kerala is vaccinating and PCR-testing their way out of this.

I am hoping for India to fall under 15K today. Possible, but let us see the big states numbers.

We went well under 14K today... Just +13.2K cases in India, our lowest total in 224 days (since March 1st)... From about 1173K tests at 1.12% positivity which is of course our best ever since Covid started - bettering the 1.23% record we had two days ago. The seven-day average fell by a -560 to 19,018... That is the lowest it has been since March 10th too. The death total was 177, the lowest since March 17th. Basically seven-month lows.

Let us hope that the numbers will keep dropping for 4 more weeks to below +11K, so that we can fall to 17-month lows - to numbers we haven't seen since mid-June of 2020. I can't wait!

Urgent: does anyone know if a RT-qPCR test from Curative in USA is an acceptable test to enter India? Or does it have to say RT-PCR only? I’m traveling on Friday and the logistical arrangements are very taxing. Thanks.

Is it an oral swab tests (saliva)? I think Curative's RT-qCPR is that variety. Questionable if that would be accepted (though RT-qCPR is supposed to be more accurate!). I am checking.

I see several RT-qCPR test kits approved by ICMR at this page for use in India but it is not specific to travel - https://www.icmr.gov.in/pdf/covid/kits/ ... 072021.pdf

Atithee, this page says RT-qPCR is accepted -- https://www.path2usa.com/blog/new-covid ... india-trip but that is not an official page.

Also, you can get a test on arrival at Delhi and Mumbai airports if you are flying in there (may need to leave a 6 hour gap till any onward flight)
