Siddharth Suchde thread

Post by PKBasu »

Scottish Open junior champion in (December) 2003, and junior runner-up in 2002. Siddharth is a student at Harvard, who finished 10th in the junior event at the 2004 British Open -- but is one of India's bright young squash prospects. (He seems to reserve his best for the Scottish Open, where he beat Saurav Ghoshal in the semi-final; Saurav went onto win the British Open junior championship a fortnight later).

In a match (Trinity vs Harvard) yesterday

B.Samper d . S.Suchde 9-2 9-5 9-0

Here is a link. Trinity hasn't lost a match since 1998 making it a streak of 115 wins in a row. Demonstration of their dominance is that they were #1 and Harvard #2 yet they won easily.

One shouldn't consider Siddarth's wins as upsets -- he is ranked low because he was not playing tournaments due to his college commitments. The SF is going to be a better indicator to his precise level -- I anticipate a win :-) He needs to win these lower level tournaments to move up the ladder and be able to qualify for higher level tournaments. By the way, now that his collegiate career is over, is he going to be playing professional squash full-time?

Suresh, totally agree with u but still I keep calling these r upsets as per PSA ranking ... ;)

By the way u anticipated correctly Siddarth defeated top seed and top-80 Australian straight games to reach his first PSA level final ... :D His Mexican opponent also playing his first PSA final.

As per report, after a hard fought 31-minute first game, which take more out of Australian top seed Ryan Cuskelly, Suchde dominated the T as he went on to win in straight games.

At $6K Saskatoon Boast 2007, Saskatchewan, Canada

[SF] (Q) Siddarth Suche (IND,246) bt (1) Ryan Cuskelly (AUS,76) 13-11 11-6 11-6 (58m)

[F] (Q) Siddarth Suche (IND,246) vs Arturo Salazar (MEX,174)

Those are some pretty good wins, whether we consider them upsets or not.

Excellent results from Siddharth Suchde, who showed a couple of years ago that he was only a shade below the quality of our top-two players, Ritwik and Sourav. Professional squash is a pretty tough arena to make a living (given the meagre prize money available), so a Harvard grad will need to quickly make it to top-50 if he is not to be tempted by other avenues of opportunity.

At $6K Saskatoon Boast 2007, Saskatchewan, Canada

[F] (Q) Siddarth Suche (IND,246) l Arturo Salazar (MEX,174) 10-12 7-11 7-11 (53m)

Siddarth lost final against talented 19 yrs old Mexican, other hand this was Siddarth's 6th match in 6 days as he needed to qualify for this tournament.

As per report, spectators were thrilled by quickness and focus by the two first-time finalists ... But Arturo Salazar displayed incredible speed in retrieving almost everything Siddarth played and he kept pressure on Siddarth with his variety of shots ... Siddarth fought till end, but Salazar was too much for him in the final.

Great showing from Siddharth -- beating one Salazar(Cesar) after losing in the final to another Salazar (Arturo) in October. Siddharth should be moving into the top-100 and might be able to play in higher level tournaments now.

Edit:  Turns out that Arturo and Cesar are twins!

A good performance by Siddarth Suchde to win a title in St Louis and hopefully he can build on this success to reach his goals in 2008.

Thanks Jaydeep for providing us with the news about Siddarth Suchde.
