I believe Saurav is now ranked at #23, down from a career high of #22 in the previous week. To move up further though, he will need to start beating the likes of Boswell. Very Somdev-like in his career progression, Saurav has been rising up the rankings very surely although slowly.

Italy's Davide Bianchetti argued with refree at 12-all in the second to get a conduct game awarded against him ... Then during the interval Bianchetti continued to argue and passing comments to the referee as they were about to start the third ... At that time the referee's patience ran out and the match was awarded to Saurav.

Saurav lifted his first title of the year ... He was top-seed in this tournament but needed to give full efforts in every match except semi-final ... In the first round match he made remarkable comeback against Mexican after 0-2 down ... In quarter-final also he needed extra efforts against last year's champion Pett ... Saurav had a easy semifinal but in the final Pakistani qualifier stretched him again ... Two games went into extra points before Saurav won the fourth comfortably ... Much needed title for Saurav.

[SF] (1) Saurav Ghosal (IND,26) bt Alan Clyne (SCO,49) 11-4 11-5 11-6

WR #2 James Willstrop believes that Indian squash is "buzzing" after two good performances in recent weeks ... India came close to pulling off a remarkable win at the under-21 World Cup in Chennai earlier this month and Saurav Ghosal won the Windy City Open at the weekend to secure one of the biggest wins of his PSA career.

Ghosal could change the dynamics of Indian squash: Willstrop
The Leeds-based Indian No 1 a regular training partner with Willstrop at Pontefract Squash Club in Yorkshire.

"He is one of the quickest players on tour," Willstrop said of Ghosal. "He looks fast as he is smaller in stature than most tour pros. But his little steps make him entertaining to watch. He is lightning quick. His racket work has improved immeasurably. He just needs to transfer it to match play and he could change the dynamics of Indian squash. But he has time on his side and he can definitely develop. He is a great training partner when we get the time to practise and an all-round nice guy. He deserves his latest success in Chicago that's for sure."
Saurav Ghosal thanks Ritwik after first title of year
"I'm obviously super happy about winning it. It's my biggest win on the PSA circuit till date and I had to get through some really hard matches during the week."

It was an up and down journey for Ghosal in 2011. He started the year well before the injury to his left foot effectively kept him out of action right through the season. The period from April to August last year was an uncertain one for Ghosal, who trains in Leeds under renowned coach Malcolm Willstrop. He made his comeback to the Tour (PSA) later in August but it was too late to impact his rankings which slid from World No 22 to 27.

Over the winter period Ghosal stuck with his training and apart from Willstrop and the training mates in the UK, Ghosal had an important ally helping him prepare at home in India - former national champion Ritwik Bhattacharya. Ghosal thanked his good friend and former rival Ritwik who is retired from but whose exploits as a pioneer from India paved the way for players like Ghosal.

"I would obviously like to thank my dad, grandparents and my family and friends for all their support," said Ghosal. "Of course my coach Malcolm Willstrop is instrumental in all my success. Ritwik Bhattacharya has been helping me out recently when I'm in India and that has made a huge difference too."
