Nick Mathews, the 2013 winner, looms in the third round for Sourav. First, he needs to win R2. Good luck to our lads.

It is about time that Saurav started defeating players like Nick Mathews. That is the only way to enter the top 10.

I ran into Sourav Ghoshal in Calcutta earlier this week. (He lives in the same building as my parents do; his grandfather was a professor at IIM-Calcutta, and brought him up after his parents separated). He is a diminutive lad (perhaps 5'6" or so), but super-fit of course. The next time I am in the city with him, I will try and talk to him!!

Another terrific performance by Saurav against WR #1 Elshorbagy ... In their match Saurav was up 2-1 games before losing next two games ... Before that he dug deep for scoring upset win over Max Lee in extra points of five games ... In qualifying Mahesh also put fighting performance against higher ranked Egyptian opponent.

[Q1] Mahesh Mangaonkar (IND,45) l Mohamed Abouelghar (EGY,33) 2-3 (2-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-3, 6-11) (60m)

[R1] Saurav Ghosal (IND,21) bt Max Lee (HKG,16) 3-2 ( 11-4, 5-11, 11-8, 11-13, 13-11) (76m)

[R2] Saurav Ghosal (IND,21) l (1) Mohamed Elshorbagy (EGY,1) 2-3 (5-11, 11-4, 11-1, 5-11, 7-11) (61m)

Wow!! Saurav just upset #7 Tarek Momen, which is probably the best result of his career till date. Just when his results seemed to have tapered off, he is back with a bang!!

At $150K Men's El Gouna Open 2015, Egypt:
[R1] Saurav Ghosal (IND,23) bt Tarek Momen (EGY,7) 3-2 (12-10, 11-1, 7-11, 12-14, 11-9) (85m)

Good to see Saurav becoming competitive with top-10 players but he can't make it back to back top-10 wins.

Saurav again score win over Tarek Momen showing his last win against him at El Gouna International Open wasn't fluke ... There he needed five games for completing the win but here Saurav was in more control ... After losing the second game he played excellent squash for completing victory in four games ... Next he is facing WR #10 German opponent Simon Rösner.

Before that Saurav qualified for Zurich tournament with comfortable wins.

At $70K Men's Grasshopper Cup 2015, (International 70), Zurich, Switzerland

Yes, Saurav again fail to produce back to back wins against top-10 players ... He lose close match against German Rösner in 71 minutes ... After winning first game Saurav was keeping pressure on Rösner but failing to win crucial points in end cost him this game ... After that Rösner kept pressure on Saurav and took advantage of Saurav's mistakes.

At $70K Men's Grasshopper Cup 2015, (International 70), Zurich, Switzerland

[QF] (Q) Saurav Ghosal (IND,23) l (5) Simon Rösner (GER,10) 1-3 (11-8, 9-11, 6-11, 8-11) (71m)
