Good to see Ritwik, Joshna, Siddharth and Manish live up to their rankings. I think Sourav's loss in R2 was certainly a bit disappointing.
The quarterfinals look pretty tough for our stalwarts, with Ritwik facing a particularly challenging match-up. Go Ritwik and Joshna!!

Good to see Joshna in the Semis. Nicol David is top seed and ranked 8th in the world. So a great challenge ahead for Joshna. Go Joshna!!
Ritwik's loss to Ong Beng Hee is not an disappointing one as the top seed Ong is ranked 20th in the world and Ritwik is not in his great form recent times.

Ritwik lost in the quarter-final, right?
I hadn't realised that Malaysia are now the pre-eminent squash-playing nation in Asia...The Pakistanis are no longer the force they used to be, and of course only the Malaysians have both men and women players in the world-class league. But India look like the most credible challengers to the Malaysians in the future...

Ong Beng Hee (Mal) bt Ritwik Bhattacharya (Ind) 9-5 9-0 9-5
Mohd Azlam (Mal) bt Abdul Khalid Mazayin (Kuw) 9-2 9-3 9-0
(I cut and pasted the result after adding the seed # of Ong Hee but if you check the full men's draw then you find that Ong versus Ritwik match was a quarterfinal and not a semifinal as reported by SquashNow.)

Asian Squash Championships 2004
Pakistani squash has been confined to a few families. The most famous of course were the Khans -- of whom the last was 10-time British Open champion Jahangir Khan. (Jahangir's successor Jansher Khan was unrelated to the more famous Khans, although Jansher nearly matched the greatest of them, Jahangir, and came from the same village of Nawakille in NWFP). Jahangir's father Roshan Khan won the British Open once, and his uncle Hashim Khan won it 7 times. In fact, between 1950 and 1962, 22 of the 26 finalists at the British Open were the Khan brothers and cousins (Roshan and Nasrullah were brothers, and were supposedly the "cousins" of Hashim and his brother, the 4-times champion Azam). Jansher's father Mohibullah (who shared a name with one of Hashim's cousins, also a star player) was a world-class player too.
Qamar Zaman was one of the perennial #2s to Jahangir Khan, although he won the British Open once. (He too was related to the famous Khans, as far as I remember). I wonder if these Zamans are the sons or other relatives of Qamar Zaman...

Joshna (IND) lost to Nicol David (MAS) in the semifinal 3-9,8-10,4-9. A good fight against a player, who is the top seed and ranked 8th in the world.
