Thought it was time to stop talking about a thread for Shikha and Neha, and actually start one!
Shikha is in the qualies of the Redding Challenger this week:
[Q1] 8-ADAMCZAK MONIQUE AUS vs UBEROI SHIKHA USA
Neha is in the qualies of the WTA Nasdaq-100 in Florida -- draw still TBA.

Shikha and Neha deserve a thread of their own, and I wish both of them good luck on the tour.

Thanks for the links BBS -- reading the story about the Ivy League makes me realize how far Neha has come, and sadly, how little Kavita has progressed...

Shikha couldn't get past her tough Q2 opponent:
[Q2] (3) Jewel Peterson (USA, 235) d. (WC) Shikha Uberoi (USA, 381) 60 46 64
Neha plays her opening match in the junior tournament at the Nasdaq-100 in Miami today... The winner of the tournament gets a main draw WC next year.

We're following Neha's incredible run at the Miami Masters junior tournament in that particular tournament thread... but I thought I would re-post what I just wrote there:
...And in an even bigger upset than Neha's win yesterday comes her straight sets win today over Sesil Karatancheva of Bulgaria. Wow. Sesil just recently ousted world #26 Magui Serna and also beat Alexandra Stevenson at Indian Wells in March. Wow and double wow for Neha -- she seems headed for the Top 100 for sure.
[SF] Neha Uberoi (USA) d. (2) Sesil Karatancheva (BUL, 207) 75 76(3)
She'll play #1 seed Nicole Vaidisova (CZE) in the final...

Great win! Sesil is very talented. She even took a set off of Maria Sharapova at the Pacific Life.
Another 14-year old she faces tomorrow though.

There are two pictures of Neha at this web page, from her match against Sesil on Thursday -

This page has one picture from wednesday

A couple of pictures are in the tuesday page too -

You will see why I said she is among the fittest, most athletic Indian girls I have seen .. She is quite thin and light, and perhaps has the best muscle/fat ratio among our girls.

There were some talks about Neha playing for India. What came out of it?
We could certainly use her along with Sania, Isha and Megha with some others coming up.

Article on Neha's big win
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl- ... -headlines
A few factual errors (she's India's most famous female tennis player? Maybe someday, but not now!) but overall a good article.

This was mentioned in a PTI article today --
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Neha Uberoi became the first person of Indian origin to enter a Tier 1 WTA event after grabbing a main draw wild card for the Nasdaq Open WTA event in Miami.
Guess this is the highest any POI will have gotten since Niru's Aussie Open adventure!
