[Damn, that means I can't goof off on making a web page for her anymore .. Soon after Sania's page, I will need to make one for her too]

Indian Express newspaper has reported that ITF has cleared Shikha to play for India.
Good news for those of you cheering her to play from India. I still think it's unfair to the homegrown players who will be denied a representation (Fed cup, wild cards in domestic competition, etc.) because of an import.

Following is the link:
http://www.indianexpress.com/full_story ... oins~Sania
NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 3: Shikha Uberoi has finally been cleard to represent India in international tournaments. The US citizen, ranked 149 in WTA ratings, will be eligible to play for India in the Fed Cup and other tournamnets, according to a decision taken at the ITF board of directors meet on January 24 at Melbourne.

Hey, we discussed that before .. I disagree .. If any home-grown player who is even somewhat near her in results is denied opportunities, I would complain .. I would complain more if she does not show enough Indian-ness in her heart --- that also does not appear to be the case.

To feel India in your heart you would normally need to be brought up by Indian parents in a certain way, and this too applies to her case.

That she is born in India is gravy too ...

One more arcticle on Shikha in Rediff.
http://us.rediff.com/sports/2005/feb/05uberoi.htm

She actually plans to move out of US in the near future (if I have to take a guess it would be India... or may be Bahamas like many tennis players do for monetary reasons).
Shikha also revealed that she planned to move out of the US sometime in near future while stressing on the need for tennis players in India to be given opportunities to go abroad and play big tournaments.

And now, Conchita Martinez has won the Pattaya title, beating none other than Anna Lena Groenefeld in three sets :)

Groenefeld is clearly a player who is steadily rising through the ranks. That Shikha came so perilously close to beating Martinez should really give her enormous confidence.
Sania of course beat Groenefeld in the SF of the Palm Beach Gardens event (US$50K, on clay) in December. And Groenefeld, in turn, had in the previous round beaten Czink (who plays Shikha in Hyderabad's R1 in the week ahead). Sania and Shikha are already playing like top-100 players, and Hyderabad should help cement this.

Shikha is indeed quite a level-headed, well-spoken and sweet girl.
