The last I read during davis cup team selection discussion that he is out due to a foot injury. But, there are no further details on how serious the injury and when he is likely to come back.

Do you have any other info suggesting that he has retired ?

Yes, his IPR will be somewhere in early 300'. With that he can get entry into at least some of the challengers. Else, he will have to start from futures.

He will have to wait till end September though for him to become eligible for IPR.

No idea. As I said in another thread, he was in India for last 15-20 days to be in TImes Now Rio Olympics panel. But, whenever I saw nobody was asking him anything about his own game.

Perhaps, if Jay or someone is still in touch with him can ask him about his plans.

Somdev has tweeted today about Eric Butorac's retirement. Still no hint about his own status. But I think he is getting ready to get back on tour after the end of September.

The last time Somdev was away from the tour for several months due to injury, he was pretty secretive about it. I remember we were trying to find out from his tweets and stuff but we didn't even know he had a shoulder surgery until long after it happened. Someone I think had reported seeing him on UVA campus with his arm in a sling and all that. Not sure why but it appears he likes to keep his cards close to his chest regarding his injuries. Let's hope he comes back strong from whatever it is and takes another crack at his professional career. Given how well the 30-somethings have done on the tour over the last few years, there is no reason why he can't make a successful comeback.

I think he becomes eligible for protected ranking in last week of September. So, let us hope he makes a return after that.
