Re: Nirupama Sanjeev thread..... (Has a baby girl now!)
can't figure out what to make out of this ,
is it a one off event which might have coincided with her india trip and she decided to have some fun ,
or it is a serious attempt to be back on the circuit full time and i dnot understand if that could be viable.
whatever the reason great to see Niupama back on the courts.

I was just reading that Hindu article. That came totally out of the blue. It has been quite a while since I have been in touch with Niru; so I don't know what's up. It would be unusual for Niru to do it just for fun, though.

If Kimiko Date Krumm can do it, maybe Nirupam Vaidyanathan Sanjeev can do it.

Jaydeep - would you be able to find us the scoop on Niru, at Pune? I think she is already in India, so I cannot call and check with her. Jay

Check this out :-
http://www.sakaaltimes.com/2009/11/1421 ... -back.html
There was an article in Hindustan Times as well but couldn't find the web link.
Spoke to her myself. She said entering a pro tournament became an automatic thing after she began training a few months ago. Actually I had congratulated her when she won an exhibition event back in the US a couple of months back. Asked her if she was mulling a serious comeback and she said 'No'. Even now, she DOES NOT know where it is going to take her. Having a kid to take care of makes all the difference. But she is sure about playing pro tournaments, even if only a couple of them a year. Well, that's what she is saying. The best thing is she considers herself fit enough to compete. Anyways, let's celebrate her return, for whatever length it is going to be.

Re: Nirupama Sanjeev thread..... (Has a baby girl now!)
Nirupama started practicing from May, at that time while practicing she found out that her level of play equivalent to 400-500 ranked players with whom she was practicing ... So she decided to participating in few tournaments but no plan of turning full pro ...jayakris wrote:Jaydeep - would you be able to find us the scoop on Niru, at Pune? Our ex-athlete and former national record holder in 100m, Rajeev Balakrishnan (her brother-in-law) chalked fitness and diet program for her in this her comeback bid on tour.

Nirupama scores a very impresive win over 720 ranked Serbian , 7-6, 6-3
Good win considering this was coming out of retirement.

She lost 2-6 3-6 against top seed Tammy Tanasugarn (THA,112) .. Good to see that she did not get totally outplayed 06 16 or anything... Heck, frankly she may be at least as good an option as anybody else out there, to join Sania at the Fed Cup next year!

Jay, it looks they heard ur call ...
Yesterday in press meet Jaideep Mukherjee, the head coach and the chairman of the tennis for the Commonwealth Games, announced Nirupama Sanjeev has been shortlisted for the games.
"She is one of the senior members of the team and has done well in the ITF here, so we have considered her for the camp."
Nirupama is also planning to play National championship.

What a FACT this is..............Well said Sanipower.....
That why Sania Mirza is not a sporting icon in this country and still Lee & Hesh hog the limelight and perhaps now Somdev is getting there.....Because COMMITMENT is the last thing she has as a player.
