Karan Rastogi ...(Wins $15K India F1 title!!)
So the question remains then whether he'll show up in Hong Kong for the Junior Championships, or whether because of the Belgaum wildcard he had withdrawn from the HK tourney.
If that's the case, he has no where to play this week because of the flight difficulty.

I wasn't following the details of junior tennis as avidly then, but I don't think Leander made as many waves at this age in the world junior tournaments as Karan has made.
I recall that Leander was unseeded at the Australian Open when he was 17. Of course, he beat top-seeded Jan Kodes (jr) in the first round (effectively ending the latter's ambitions in tennis, evidently) and went on to make the final. Leander had also won the national men's title at 16 (something Karan hasn't achieved -- perhaps because he hasn't played the nationals, but also perhaps because there is more depth at the middle-levels of Indian tennis today). Karan will almost certainly be seeded at next year's AO juniors, and very highly indeed if he plays the Florida event in December.

Karan is training at the Bolletieri academy in Florida. It is prestigious enough to be accepted there, and the stint should do him a lot of good. Most indications are that he will play the India Futures.

He has some sponsorship, but I would think Bollitieri academy itself would be quite interested in having him there..

The Bollitieri Tennis Academy in Florida can be a great place to sharpern the tennis skills if the Academy takes a special interest in the player. The Academy is home to top notch young tennis players as well as to less talented teenagers whose parents are rich and can afford the high price. The two sets of players are treated differently. I am sure that the Academy views Karan as a good prospect and will put its better coaches to work with him. I am glad that Karan is taking the time to improve his skills at a good facility.

Yes, Karan is certainly among their elite group. There is a big difference between the guys who are there mostly to brag about, and the true prospects who are there for serious work. The academy clearly knows who is who and treats them accordingly.
