16 year old Digivijay Pratap Singh won the grade 4 title in Qatar.

[R2] Digvijay Pratap SINGH (IND) [2] 6-2 6-1 Liam COERTZEN (RSA)

Digivijay is a promising player but did not play in the Indian grade 2/Grade 2 events in January. Good to see him back and winning a title.

Yes, good performance by Dev Javia. He lost in the final. He was our #1 at under 14 level last year and has just turned 15 this month. He holds some promise. Let us see how he progresses.

All our junior got bundled out in first round in grade 1 Nike Junior International Roehampton which was the only warm up event before Wimbledon.

R1

Danny THOMAS (USA) 6-2 6-7(6) 6-3 Siddhant BANTHIA (IND)
Thaisa Grana PEDRETTI (BRA) 7-5 6-0 Mihika YADAV (IND)
Maria Camila OSORIO SERRANO (COL) [7] 6-3 6-4 Mahak JAIN (IND)
Karolina BERANKOVA (CZE) 5-7 6-2 1-0 Default Zeel DESAI (IND) [13]

From twitter, it seems interesting incident in Zeel's match. After losing the first game in third set, Zeel might have thrown her racket which bounced and hit the coach of her opponent. She was defaulted for that. Bad luck for her.

How hard one has to throw the racquet so it bounces high enough to go out of the court and hit her opponent's coach! :) :) :)

Zeel is extremely talented, so let's hope she harnesses her racquet throwing prowess and converts it to positive Tennis strokes :)

Couple of good runs by Indian juniors this week - Adil Kalyanpur has made the SF in grade 2 in Egypt while Mihika Yadav has made the QF of a grade 1 in Canada.

At Al-Solaimaneyah EGY 1 ITF Junior Tournament (Grade 2)- Egypt (Clay)

[R1] (6) Adil KALYANPUR (IND,209) d. Malik OMARKHANOV (KAZ,440) 61 61
[R2] (6) Adil KALYANPUR (IND,209) d. Matteo CONTARINO (ITA,867) 60 60
[QF] (6) Adil KALYANPUR (IND,209) d. (1) Yanki EREL (TUR,124) 64 46 62

Sabhyata Nihalani and Sakthvika Sama played in girls singles but lost early.

Next,

[SF] (6) Adil KALYANPUR (IND,209) vs. Joao FERREIRA (BRA,361)

The Brazilian has beaten 5th and 3rd seeds in last 2 rounds. So, he will not be easy on clay for Adil.

In the grade 1 warm up event before US open, Mihika Yadav has had a couple of impressive wins.

At Les Internationaux de Tennis Junior Banque Nationale du Canada, Grade 1

[R1] (11) Mihika YADAV (IND,39) bye
[R2] (11) Mihika YADAV (IND,39) d. Hurricane Tyra BLACK (USA,55) 62 61

[R3] (11) Mihika YADAV (IND,39) d. (5) Mai HONTAMA (JPN,20) 76(5) 64

Mihika had lost to Hurricane Tyra Black only last week in straight sets while she had lost 16 26 to the Japanese girl Hontama at the Australian open. So, nice for her to get revenge for both the losses.

Next,

[QF] (11) Mihika YADAV (IND,39) vs. Layne SLEETH (CAN,85)

Adil lost in the SF to a Brazilian.

At Al-Solaimaneyah EGY 1 ITF Junior Tournament (Grade 2)- Egypt (Clay)

[SF] (6) Adil KALYANPUR (IND,209) l. Joao FERREIRA (BRA,361) 46 36

Hope he does even better next week in another grade 2 here. Adil Kalyanpur appears to be one of the bet among our limited range of players coming thru the juniors lines and he is getting a opportunity to train at Nadal academy. Hope he makes the most of it.

I agree that he had shown a lot of potential. However, Adil turns 18 in a few months and has hardly focused much on the junior circuit thus far. I feel that it is a mere waste of time playing these graded tournaments so late in his junior career. Let's pray that his career is not mismanaged the we saw it happen to many a youngster. I am guessing he is planning on playing those 3 weeks of futures in India next month? In such a relatively weaker field, it will be nice if he can make a couple of QFs or a semi. With his touted potential and a bit of luck with the draw, this is not impossible to achieve.

He is much touted but frankly has not shown the results so far to match that potential. Even in juniors, his best results have been couple of SF's in grade 2 tournament including one this week.

I am yet to see any big impact on his game after training at Rafa Nadal Acedemy for last 1 year at least.

Btw. Mihika lost in QF in Canada.

At Les Internationaux de Tennis Junior Banque Nationale du Canada, Grade 1

[QF] (11) Mihika YADAV (IND,39) l. Layne SLEETH (CAN,85) 06 46

Still, these matches will hold Mihika in good stead when she plays US open juniors.

Unfortunately, Zeel Desai and Mahak Jain have chosen to play in a slam without any warm-up tournaments which I don't think is a good idea.
