Rithvik Chowdhary has totally dominated the last 2 weeks in Kenya Grade IV. He won both the Singles, Doubles titles in both the week. He is 17 yr old and will be turning 18 soon. He will likely take the US College route but another talent for us to watch out for. Another talent from the unheralded CV Nagaraj's School of Power Tennis

13 year old Rutuja Chaphalkar won the grade 5 title in Nepal this week on clay. This was her first ever ITF junior tournament. Interestingly, Rutuja is listed as from USA on the ITF site but she played Fenesta nationals in October and finished runner up in under 14 girls. She is also ranked #2 in the AITA under 14 rankings and is listed as from Maharashtra.

I was surprised to see USA against her name in ITF draw. Hope she plays for India as looks to be a really talented kid. Winning in your first ITF juniors circuit under 18 tournament when you are just 13 is noteworthy .

Vikash Singh won a double crown at a grade 4 in Barbados winning singles and doubles titles.

These are his singles results -

At C.O. Williams Barbados Junior International 2018 (Grade 4)

[R1] Vikash Singh (IND, 123) d Danlil Savelev (RUS, 903) 6-2 6-3
[R2] Vikash Singh (IND, 123) d Zidan Dottin(BAR, UNR) 6-0 6-0
[QF] Vikash Singh (IND, 123) d Alexandre Leblanc (CAN, 365) 6-1 6-2
[SF] Vikash Singh (IND, 123) d Daiki Yoshimura (JPN, 322) 6-3 6-2
[F] Vikash Singh (IND, 123) d William Woodall (USA, 85) 6-2 6-1

Vikash is now in his last year of juniors and considering that the talent he showed at Orange Bowl 2 years back, grade 4 title may not mean that great to him. But, the final win over the American top seed looks very good.

Good performance by our juniors at grade 2 in Taiwan where Sacchit Sharma and Megh Bhargav Patel made it an all Indian final.

At Nan Ying Cup International Junior Championships 2018, Grade 2 (Clay)

[R1] Sacchitt SHARRMA (IND) [5] 5-7 6-3 6-4 Stefan STORCH (AUS)
[R1] Megh Bhargav PATEL (IND) [3] 6-1 6-0 Taiyo YAMANAKA (JPN

[R2] Sacchitt SHARRMA (IND) [5] 6-1 6-2 Yamato SUEOKA (JPN)
[R2] Megh Bhargav PATEL (IND) [3] 6-2 3-6 6-2 Jack PINNINGTON JONES (GBR)

[QF] Sacchitt SHARRMA (IND) [5] 7-5 6-7(3) 7-6(3) Shunsuke MITSUI (JPN) [4]
[QF] Megh Bhargav PATEL (IND) [3] 6-2 6-4 Fumiya YOSHINO (JPN)

[SF] Sacchitt SHARRMA (IND) [5] 7-6(5) 6-2 Arthur Craig PANTINO (PHI) [8]
[SF] Megh Bhargav PATEL (IND) [3] 6-1 7-5 Chang-Lin TSAI (TPE)

[F] (3) Megh Bhargav PATEL (IND,117) vs. (5) Sacchitt SHARRMA (IND,143)

It will be good title win to boost ranking for 18 year Megh Bhargav Patel and 17 year old Sachhit Sharma.

Rishab Sharda and Abhimany Venemreddy lost in first round of boys while in girls Shivani Amineni lost in second round and Akansha Bhan in QF.

Wow. This is a good result even though the top players must be in Europe at the moment.

And 17 year old Sacchit Sharma won the grade 2 title in Taiwan.

At Nan Ying Cup International Junior Championships 2018, Grade 2 (Clay)

[F] (5) Sacchitt SHARRMA (IND,143) d. (3) Megh Bhargav PATEL (IND,117) 26 64 64

With that tile, Sacchit Sharma moves up all the way close to 90 in the rankings and a couple of decent results can get into grand slam main draw if not this year at least next year.

18 year old Megh Bhargav Patel will also move up to similar range close to 90. But, he has only this year left in juniors. So, will need quickly to get another good performance to try to move into top 60 and go into US open juniors .

Both Aryan and Sanjana lost in final of that grade 5 in Sri Lanka.

[F] Jasza SZAJRYCH (POL) 6-2 6-1 Aryaan BHATIA (IND)

[F] Jiaqi HUANG (CHN) [2] 6-2 6-1 Sanjana SIRIMALLA (IND)

Still good run by 13 year old Sanjana in particular.

In another grade 5 tournament in Honduras, 15 year Amritlaxmi Shanmugam won the title.

[R1] Amritalakshmi SHANMUGAM (IND) 6-0 6-3 Valeria Sofia ZUNIGA VARELA (HON)
[QF] Amritalakshmi SHANMUGAM (IND) 6-1 6-1 Sofia SEGURA (ESA) [4]
[SF] Amritalakshmi SHANMUGAM (IND) 6-2 6-2 Cecilia ALCOBE GARIBAY (USA)
[F] Amritalakshmi SHANMUGAM (IND) 6-0 0-1 Retired Katherine TENG (USA) [3]

Strange to see an Indian girl going and playing in Honduras. She may be probably based in US.

Mann Shah produced an excellent upset win against the tournament 2nd seed at a G2 event in Egypt this week.

AT Smash Academy ITF Junior Tournament, G2, EGYPT

R1 Simon Anthony IVANOV (BUL,51) [1] 3-6 6-3 6-2 Sacchitt SHARRMA (IND,123)

R1 Mann SHAH (IND,153) 6-4 3-6 6-2 Shintaro MOCHIZUKI (JPN,166)
R2 Mann SHAH (IND,153) 6-3 6-7(5) 6-1 Gauthier ONCLIN (BEL,49) [2]
QF Mann SHAH (IND,153) vs Nicholas David IONEL (ROU,181)

Mann (17yo) has 6 ITF Junior titles to his name (albeit lower level ones), but the thing that disturbs me is that he has never played one Pro circuit tournament yet.

That is a really good win over a top 50 players. Not seen any Indian junior pulling off even a top 50 win these days. So, this is good. Hope he continues to do well.

Mann lost :-(

QF Mann SHAH (IND,153) 7-6 1-6 1-6 Nicholas David IONEL (ROU,181)

Still a good week and someone should encourage him to start picking up some Pro ranking points.

Probably was a little tired playing 3 continuous 3 setters. His QF opponent had received a WO in R2.

Maybe this is too early or not too important or maybe it is, but 14-year-old Denim Yadav, currently ranked #751 in the junior circuit is the 2nd highest ranked junior for those born in the year 2004. Denim has not won a title yet but has had a couple of SF runs in G4/G5 tournaments this year.

Thanks for this, Dinesh. Denim Yadav is clearly someone we should be paying a lot of attention to.
