Yes, they made SF at Seoul Open in September when he opened this thread for them. :D My mistake.

Next one is going to be really tough match though against an in-form player.

Coming up in a couple of hours, the battle between last year's two most prolific Challenger doubles title winners:

[QF] Yuki Bhambri/Saketh Myneni (IND/IND) vs. 3-Julian Cash/Henry Patten (GBR/GBR)

Both pairs lost in R1 of the AO, so they haven't quite made the transition to the ATP tour. Good opportunity for our pair to make a big statement! Cash/Patten are ranked 63 and 65 in the individual doubles rankings, so not much higher than our pair.

WOW! what a win! I gave up hope when they were 1-4 down in the first set,,, But it was a different ball game after that... During that first phase of the match, Yuki/Saki were completely blown away and it looked as if they didn't belong at that stage... I am glad they came back stronger....

This is a good win for YukiSaki. Cash-Patten dominated the challengers with 3 successive titles (and 12-0) in their last 3 challengers. Also, they did win a round at the AO and made the SFs in ATP Pune (losing to BalaJee), so they look like a legit (albeit middling) ATP level pair. Another win or two by YukiSaki would be great. :goodluck:

Their singles game was worthy of being top 50. That never happened because of injuries. If players like Jeevan, Divij and Purav have hit top 100 in doubles, then these two should atleast hit top 50

But Saki should be vary of the fact that in the next 2/3 weeks he has to protect 130 points earned with Ram last year and in April has another 146 points to defend earned with Yuki ( So too Yuki) ,so in the next 8 weeks if these 276 points are not adequately protected , could suffer in the rankings , but the playing form these 2 are in , there is a high chance that there will not be any appreciable changes in the rankings.

Defending points is certainly an issue when you change level of competition and the defended points are earned mostly at a lower level of competition. If they can be a middling ATP pair, they should be able to defend the points quite easily. If they are overmatched, then they will lose ground and have to go back down to come back up.

Not entirely convinced that they are a middling ATP pair. They definitely have the tools to be competitive at this level but are quite error prone, so it may turn on how well they play the key points.

This is my impression too, from watching a few times. They are error-prone, and can lose points on silly mistakes. If a few of them happen in a row, they drop games and run into trouble. They often make comebacks, but if they can cut down on the errors, they can win more comfortably and avoid some of the losses. They are capable of some good quality stuff though!

YukiSaki lost the marathon first set tie-breaker 11-13. Both teams have had numerous set points in the TB. Hope they can make a come back here.

At the ATP 250 in Dallas, TX, USA (Hard)

[SF] Saketh Myneni (IND)/ Yuki Bhambri (IND) l. (2) Nathaniel Lammons (USA)/ Jackson Withrow (USA), 67(11) 57

Close loss, but good to see that their game was fully at the ATP tour level.

Yes, they are definitely playing at a level appropriate to their ranks (or slightly better). Towards the end of last year, they began to be quite dominant on the Challenger tour, and have now made the transition to the ATP250 level. But they need to start winning this type of tournament. Notice that all their matches in Dallas were really close -- two close wins, and a close loss. If they could have strung together a couple more close wins, they would have had a title. Without a title, they will languish in the 70-90 ranking range. (Divij-Purav won ATP titles in Colombia and Mexico when they were established on the ATP tour, the former including a win in the final over a local pair that went on to become #1 in the world).

In the Dallas SF last week, Yuki/Saki did have their chances but couldn't capitalize on them. Saki, especially was wound up so tight that the couldn't do much at all on crucial points. Yuki was much better. But the inability to close out points, not killing their overheads, and serving DFs in the tie-break are things they can work on to get better....

As expected, Yuki/Saki are planning to play Dubai ATP 500 after Doha....

They were 4 out of main-draw and #2 in the qualies list yesterday. But some things got updated today and they are 5-out of main-draw and 1-out of qualies... :goodluck:

This week, they will be playing in the $642,735 Delray Beach ATP 250 where the field is slightly stronger than the one in Dallas last week

[R1] Yuki Bhambri (IND,84)/ Saketh Myneni (IND,82) v. Philipp Oswald (AUT,70)/ Jordan Thompson (AUS,297/93s)

They are up against a pair of irregular partners Oswald, who partnered RamK last week, and Jordan Thompson.... Both of them lost their R1 doubles matches last week....

Hopefully Yuki/Saki will win their R1 without any problems to set up a tough encounter with the top-seeds... :goodluck:
