Absolutely. Piatti needs to stop being stubborn. There is nothing to prove from continuing to play qualies to get one top-1000 quality win and one ATP point from these tough European M15s. He has proved very well that he can handle it and can do quite fine. He has got enough match play experience too from a whole bunch of qualifying matches the past year too. Now let us try to cut down on all these unnecessary Q matches he is having to play. Get him out to some easier events so he can move up and be a seed at M15s soon. That is needed to be able to move further up to M25 levels and so on. Let us not waste anymore time.sameerph wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 3:00 pm Yes and no points for qualifying too. So, for 2 weeks where Manas played 11 matches and won 9 of them, he gets a mere 3 points. He and his team need to find some easier tournaments so that he can get to a ranking level of around 700-750 which will mean he will not have to play qualifying at ITF tournaments.

Coming from the city of Doubles Dream of India, this kid is singularly avoiding doubles. Hope it yields results in the long run.

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
Manas should absolutely avoid doubles for the time being. He is having to play all these qualies matches (give it a stop, please, Mr. Piatti!). Can't get tired playing doubles also. Need to go deeper in main draws to the SF or F of some M15 fairly soon and move up the ranks to make the M15 main draws. Doubles needs to wait. It will be useful to play doubles later to improve certain skills but right now, it's a no-no.

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
He did reach the play and reach the SF in Doubles in the first week. He has played 11 singles + 3 doubles matches in 2 weeks. Given how fragile indian players are, I would have liked him taking rest this week.

That's good. If not singles, Indian can always fall back to doubles.Prakharulz wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 4:51 pm He did reach the play and reach the SF in Doubles in the first week. Manas beat Carles Rojas (ESP,ITF-1896), 62 63 today in the Q2. Jorge Plans (ESP,1666) next in the Q3. Manas keeps on grinding.

Manas squeaks by Jorge Plans 67 60 10-7 in Q3. So into the main draw he goes.

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
Manas draws fellow qualifier Pablo Trochu (FRA, 1001) in the first round.
If he wins, #782 Fausto Tabacco of Italy awaits.
If he isn't too tired, this is an opportunity for Manas to at least make the QF.

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
Way too many matches for zero reward in terms of points. Manas is taking the hardest route possible, but perhaps that is helping to hone his game (in the eyes of his coaches at Piatti).

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
Yes, after winning the first set easily 6-1, Manas seemed to be struggling as he lost the second set 2-6 and went early break down 0-2 in third set. After that he was struggling to hold his serve. Saved a bp at 1-3 which would have put him 2 breaks down, then served a match point at 3-5, 30-40. Than, opponent was 2 points away at 5-4, 30-0 but Manas won the next 4 points to break for 5-5. Than, both held and than Manas won in a long tie break. Great fight.

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
Manas is really struggling to win every single ATP point (he has had to win 4 matches this week to earn a point). I have to say his progress over the past year or a bit more has been rather disappointing. Maybe he will be a later bloomer.
I just took a quick look at what Yuki Bhambri was doing at 17. When he was 16 and a half, he won the AO junior singles title. That got him a wildcard into the Miami Masters, where he lost R1 to world #73 46 36 (not an annihilation). He turned 17 on 4 July 2009. Between April and September 2009, Yuki won 5 Futures singles titles (all in India), losing in the QF (to Divij Sharan) in one; in one of the finals, he beat Raven Klaasen of South Africa (then ranked 324). He also won his first Davis Cup rubber (against South Africa), beating #290 Izak van der Merwe (who reached a career high of 113 two years later).
Of course, Yuki's career was then mishandled in subsequent years, and injuries set him back irretrievably. But it is sobering to see that Manas (who, to me at least, seemed more promising at 13-14 than Yuki at the same age) has made slower progress in recent years.
