Re: Manish Sureshkumar
This was a breakthrough tour for Manish in Sri Lanka. With the upset of the third seed and the win against the 6th seed, he also showed that a top-600 ranking will be legit too. These weren't the toughest three futures, but not the cheapest ones either. His upcoming top-600 ranking would have made him a third seed in the three events -- so 34 points from the sequence, which seems to be the most points by anybody in the field, is a job very well done!
He will also be top-10 in the world among under-19 players in the world, in a couple of weeks. It's all very positive. He needs to keep the momentum going, and work even harder to go further up. He will need to serve a few more aces than he did this week, for instance (he served only 3 aces in the 5 matches, though he had only 8 double faults, which means he was pretty steady). The second serve winning percentage was 36% in the upset of the third seed earlier, and 44% today against the 6th seed, but 60% or more against the three other easier opponents. Those are the kind of things I look at, to see how effective the serve might be. One just cannot live without a good one these days, in the upper levels of ATP. I have not seen him play, to know what kind of a serve he has, but I guess he will have to make it stronger without losing accuracy.

Re: Manish Sureshkumar
Thanks Suresh for starting this well deserving thread for Manish ... I have updated scores in your first post, hope you don't mind.
I think, he trains at Nvk Tennis Academy and his coach is listed as Sureshkumar (his father?).

Re: Manish Sureshkumar
Thanks, Vatsal. I hope he also gets to train at some academy abroad like RamK did early on if he has good financial support.

Re: Manish Sureshkumar
Vatsal, any idea whether Mr Sureshkumar (the father) was a tennis player or trained coach himself?
Re: Manish Sureshkumar
PKB, Coach Suresh Kumar is not Manish’s father. He has been coaching in chennai for more than 20 years.

Re: Manish Sureshkumar
Manish turns 19 today and is ranked at a career high ranking of #552. Last week, he was ranked #11 in those below 19 years. Now, of course he is outside top 20 for those under 20 years. Hopefully, over the next year he regains his position. For that he will have have to aim for top 300 in next 1 year which is a big step to take. Hope he takes that step to stay on course to be our potential next top 100-150 player.

Re: Manish Sureshkumar
Manish won the Premjit Lal invitational tennis tournament in Kolkata.
These are the results of this tournament -
Singles (final): Manish Sureshkumar bt Arjun Kadhe 6-3, 6-4;
Semifinals: Manish Sureshkumar bt Saketh Myneni 1-6, 6-2, 6-2; Arjun Kadhe bt Vijay Sundar Prashanth 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Quarterfinals: Saketh Myneni bt Purav Raja 6-4, 6-2; Manish Sueshkumar bt Vishnu Vardhan 6-1, 6-1; Vijay Sundar Prashanth bt Sidharth Rawat 6-3, 6-4; Arjun Kadhe bt Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan 6-3, 6-4.
This was just a invitational event but still good wins by Manish against Vishnu, Saketh and Arjun here. Hopefully, Manish will take a leap to being a challenger level player.

Re: Manish Sureshkumar
Nice wins by Manish! Hopefully, he has a breakout year in 2019. He is still young, so the ceiling on him is still pretty high...

Re: Manish Sureshkumar
Those are very impressive wins by Manish, particularly beating Saketh Myneni in the SF and Arjun Kadhe in straight sets in the final.
