This week both Arjun and Aryan lost in the singles second round in Egypt to much lower ranked players after Aryan had pulled off an upset of a seed in first round. Seems like Arjun is finding it tougher on clay here.

They have reached a second consecutive doubles final though there.

I think the two titles will bring Arjun's doubles ranking also pretty close to his singles rank, right outside top-600. That is a great job within just a few months of the pro tour. Keeps him in good shape to play futures anywhere and make a move up to the challenger levels.

Just noticed that Arjun lost to Nick Kyrgios in both singles (R1, 36 36) and doubles (QF, in a STB 9-11) at the French Open juniors in 2012. In his next tournament, he partnered Andrey Rublev at Halle (juniors) and made the QF, but also made the singles QF (losing to Marterer).

It’s such a pity that we don’t have a system (other than going to a US college) to keep our players competitive with their contemporaries.

Congratulations to Arjun for winning his second futures title this week in Bhubaneswar.

These are his results this week-

At $15K India F1 Futures,Bhubaneswar

[R1] (3) Arjun KADHE (IND) d. (WC) Kunal ANAND (IND) 64 62
[R2] (3) Arjun KADHE (IND) d. (WC) Suraj R PRABODH (IND) 75 64
[QF] (3) Arjun KADHE (IND) d. (Q) Vijayant MALIK (IND) 64 30 retd.
[SF] (3) Arjun KADHE (IND) d. Patrik RIKL (CZE) 76(6) 46 64
[F] (3) Arjun KADHE (IND) d. (4) N. Vijay Sundar PRASHANTH (IND) 63 62

Frankly opposition was not that good except semi final and final.

With 18 points from this title, Arjun will move up to around 450 in the ATP singles rankings.

It will be challenge for him to keep up this performance against stiffer opposition from next week where 3 of the 4 top seeds will be foreigners and Saketh will also come in.

Good to see Arjun took an advantage of weak draw for lifting his 2nd Futures title.

Arjun is now ranked 423 in singles and 420 in doubles. Apart from our top 2 (Yuki and RamK), he is the only one who has improved his ranking since start of the year. It should improve further in couple of weeks time when the last 2 weeks futures points will get updated.

With no points to defend till August, hope in next 2-3 months, he racks up points on futures circuit and gets close or inside top 300 after which he can play on challenger circuit.

It really comes down to two things - a domestic circuit that ties into the Futures tournaments, and more money available to a local tennis industry that can fund trainers and coaches with international-level credentials. All of this requires money, and Corporates/Banks willing to fund a nascent tennis industry - almost like a startup - in India. We are talking about creating a new Industry with ties with international tennis industry that creates jobs in equipment, apparel and all the related areas that create a robust, growing Industry.

In many ways I can see what needs to be done - there is plenty of money in India but it is not focused on Tennis Industry, that's the problem. One of us needs to become a India-based Lamar Hunt.

Arjun is in the entry list of a $25K ITF in Uzbekistan next week. Not sure if he will travel only for one week as he has not entered on the successive week's tournament.

He is in the alternates list of 2 Kazkahstan challengers after next week. So, probably he will play 1 week of futures in Uzbekistan and than go to Kazakhstan for challengers.

He needs to go to the UK and play Challengers and Futures on grass. He has a comparative advantage on the surface.

Agreed, but unfortunately there are no futures on grass at all and there are only 3 big grass challengers in UK where the entry list is so stiff that even Prajnesh has not got in the main draw for first 2 weeks. Arjun would not have been a seed in qualies and it is too risky for him to go there at this stage of his career. Hopefully, next year at this time he will be ranked between 200-250 when it will become worthwhile to go for big challengers on grass.

Arjun had a bad loss in second round.

At $25K Uzbekistan F3 Futures,Andijan

[R2] (4) Arjun KADHE (IND,368) l. Kristian LOZAN (RUS,588) 16 57

So, looks like Arjun is facing some slump of form in last month or so after his good rise in the rankings before that.

He is in the doubles semi final with his partner though.
