Rajiv, The career high rankings was discussed out in the thread titled Indian Tennis Player Rankings. In any case, a repeat of good news is fine.

Next week (week 41) Yuki is at Tashkent challenger while Somdev and Saki are in the Ho Chi Minh challenger. In the Ho Chi Minh challenger, Sanam is first in the alternates, VSP Is currently 7th and Jeevan is 10th in the entry list for the Ho Chi Minh challenger.

That is truly bizarre from Saniapower -- Divij (who, partnering Saketh, lost in the doubles SF) is ahead of Saketh (singles finalist and doubles SF in the same tournament)!!

I know I shouldn't be feeding the troll, but why so? He's probably one Indian who just plays the game without much fuss.

This has again been a very good week for our players. So my top 3-

1) Saketh Myneni
2) Yuki Bhambri
3) Rishab Agarwal

Special mention to Kunal Anand for reaching the QF's of a Futures abroad, that too on clay. Also, to Rohan, for making the semis in Shanghai.

Notable in Indian tennis this week

Post by PKBasu »

We had a thread with a title like this, but I don't think we've used it in the past 5-7 years.
So I've started this one to celebrate the wonderfully pleasant surprise this week -- from Ankita Raina, who beat a string of much higher-ranked Chinese players to make the final of a US$60K tournament (basically the equivalent of a Challenger) in China, while Sumit Nagal announced his definite return from an injury break to make the final of a US$25K Futures. Both had been off form, and came roaring back this week.

This forum will be reserved to celebrating genuine red letter weeks in Indian tennis.

Yes PKB, these r terrific performances from Ankita and Sumit which deserve to celebrate.

P.S. - I will merge this thread with our original 'Top Indian Tennis Stars for the week' thread.

The hottest player on tour this year (the guy with more match victories than anyone else) is beaten by the India #1 (who happens to be 14 months younger) on the grass courts of Antalya in Turkey:

ATP Antalya Open 2017

[R2] Q-Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND, 222) d. 1-Dominic Thiem (AUT, 8) 63 62

Bopanna has moved up to #36 in the doubles rankings. Ramkumar is at a career-high of 92, Divij Sharan is 133, Arjun Kadhe is 176, just ahead of Purav Raja (178). Jeevan is ranked 185 and Saketh has moved up to 228.
