Re: Mukund Sasikumar thread
This week Sasi lost in first round against lowly ranked player.
At $10K Macedonia F2 Futures , Skopje (Clay)
[R1] Sasi Kumar MUKUND (IND,663) l. (Q) Peter BOTHWELL (IRL,1291) 61 47 67(5)
Sasi has been trying to emulate the model adopted by RamK a few years back of playing clay futures in Europe and develop his game but seems unsuccessful so far.

Re: Mukund Sasikumar thread
Yes, he's had some success occasionally but appears to be very inconsistent. Not sure if this is because he is still developing his game and is inconsistent for that reason or if it is a mental focus issue which is harder to overcome in the longer run...

Re: Mukund Sasikumar thread
What's going on with this guy? He is way better than this, but has been in dumps for too long! Who is managing him these days? Karthi's camp?

Re: Mukund Sasikumar thread
I think Karthi's camp is funding him. Else, he would not be able to travel to Europe and train there. But, the results in last 1 year have been disappointing. RamK had similar sort of results about 3-4 years back before he broke out. But, Sasi has had a longer wait. So, his team will have make some change in coaching methods or something to turn it around.

Re: Mukund Sasikumar thread
Congratulations to 19 year old Sasi Kumar Mukund for winning his second futures title and first one outside India when he won $10K futures in Indonesia this week.
These are his results for the week -
[R1] (6) Sasi Kumar MUKUND (IND,648) d. Su Hao ZHONG (CHN,1459) 63 retd.
[R2] (6) Sasi Kumar MUKUND (IND,648) d. ANAND, Kunal (IND,911) 63 62
[QF] (6) Sasi Kumar MUKUND (IND,648) d. (2) Kento TAKEUCHI (JPN,466) 63 64
[SF] (6) Sasi Kumar MUKUND (IND,648) d. (5) Chuhan WANG (CHN,609) 76(3) 62
[F] (6) Sasi Kumar MUKUND (IND,648) d. (8) Masato SHIGA (JPN,719) 62 62
All the matches won in straight sets with only 1 tie break in the SF. This comes at the right time for him while results earlier this year in futures in Europe have been quite disappointing. He seems to have got back to some sort of form in last month or so playing in Asia. First making the SF in Vietnam, than a QF there and another QF in the last week here and now this title.
With this title his ranking will get very close to 550 and close to his career best of 545. Good results in the Indian futures series should take him top 500.

Re: Mukund Sasikumar thread
Very good week of excellent wins culminating in a Futures title outside India. Well done Sasi! I hope this gives him the confidence to start playing consistently at the level he is capable of.

Re: Mukund Sasikumar thread
Sometimes all it takes is one event like this to get a guy going. I hope Sasi does that. It's been a long time since we had a Sasi at the top parts of world rankings. Maybe this Sasi can do it!

Re: Mukund Sasikumar thread
These are relatively cheap points for $25K(+H) level. Someday I might make the trip to Nigeria :P

Another straight sets win for Sasi.
At $25K(+H) Nigeria F5 Futures, Lagos
[R2] (4) Sasi Kumar MUKUND (IND,557) d. Moez ECHARGUI (TUN,1201) 63 75
Next,
[QF] (4) Sasi Kumar MUKUND (IND,557) vs. (WC) Clifford ENOSOREGBE (NGR,NR)
Looks like another easy match on paper although the Nigerian upset the 8th seed in the second round.

Re: Mukund Sasikumar thread
Sasi won 3 sets against the local wild card.
At $25K(+H) Nigeria F5 Futures, Lagos
[QF] (4) Sasi Kumar MUKUND (IND,557) d. (WC) Clifford ENOSOREGBE (NGR,NR) 61 36 62
Next,
[SF] (4) Sasi Kumar MUKUND (IND,557) vs. (5) Gianni MINA (FRA,586)
Now, that is a really tough match for Sasi. 24 year old Mina is a former world #1 junior. He does not seem to have done as well on pro tour as his junior record suggests but was still ranked as high as 219 till May 2015. I think he missed a few months due to injury last year and fell off the rankings. This year he has had sort of mixed results but thrashed 343rd ranked second seed 63 61 in the QF.

Re: Mukund Sasikumar thread
Sasi loses in a very close 3 setter which went on close to 3 hours.
At $25K(+H) Nigeria F5 Futures, Lagos
[SF] (4) Sasi Kumar MUKUND (IND,557) l. (5) Gianni MINA (FRA,586) 67(1) 75 67(4)
That was a very good fight against a player who was ranked in top 225 a year ago and a former junior #1.
Still, 10 points for him this week which will take him close to top 500 in the rankings.
