[R2] Karman Kaur THANDI (IND,282) vs. (8) Georgina GARCIA-PEREZ (ESP,161)

Garcia-Perez beat Karman in straight sets in Pune 25K in December which she went on to win and then last week she won the singles title at $60K in France where Karman had lost in qualifying. So, an in-form player for Karman up next.
KKT and GGP are playing in doubles together, as well!

[R2] Karman Kaur THANDI (IND,282) lost to (8) Georgina GARCIA-PEREZ (ESP,161) 4-6, 2-6

Close 1st set. Saved a bp in very first game but broken at 2-3. Had a bp to break back when Garcia was serving at 5-4.

2nd set - broken at 1-2

Double faults have been a killer. Every time (bar 1) she has served a DF in a game she has been broken.

Garcia was neutral as she served 4 aces and 4 Dfs but Thandi was -6. No aces and 6 Dfs.

Karman is on the entry list of Perth $25K challenger that starts next week. Ankita does not seem to have entered anywhere for the next 2 weeks (there is a $60K ITF in Zhuhai in the first week of March).

Karman has a tough first-round match against Briton Gabriella Taylor. 19 yo Taylor has won last week's $25K event in Launceston as an unseeded player winning her matches all in straight sets. She also won the $25K Navi Mumbai last year.

AT $25,000 ITF PERTH

Karman is at a new carrer high of 278 this week and Gabriella too has moved up a little.

So, with new rankings -

[R1] Karman Kaur THANDI (IND,278) vs. Gabriella TAYLOR (GBR,277)

Only 1 place separate them in rankings but Gabriella is in red hot form with 2 titles in her last 2 tournaments including 1 last week here.

Makes no sense to go to Perth and lose in the 1st round...bunch of top 200 players are in the draw.

Yes, Karman served 5 aces but 8 double faults nullified that impact. Her opponent had 2 aces and 4 double faults. So, net she was better. Points won second serve which made the difference - 60% for her opponent, 35% for Karman. Also break points won 0 out of 6 for Karman, 3 out of 7 for Taylor. It would have made a difference if BP conversion was better. Anyway, better luck next week.
